Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • For-profit commercial galleries specializing in the contemporary cutting-edge art market.
  • Exceptionally, companies with relevant experience representing Quebec professional artists in contemporary cutting-edge art outside Quebec.
  • Exceptionally, organizations whose mandate concerns commercialization of contemporary cutting-edge art and that organize marketing activities for works by Quebec professional artists.

Eligible expenses

  • Participation in fairs or salons, including space rental, registration, reservation and artwork framing.
  • Presentation and promotion of exhibitions or activities, including transport of artworks, insurance, customs, setup, advertising and publishing.
  • International and local economy-class travel, accommodation in target territories and daily allowances.
  • Subscriptions to online sales platforms outside Quebec, advertising for outside-Quebec markets, and other gallery promotion initiatives outside Quebec.
  • Other relevant and necessary expenses for the project; for exploratory projects, only travel, representation and stay costs are eligible.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Production of works.
  • Salaries and commissions.
  • Fees for preparing the export project and representation costs.
  • Accreditation and space rental when there is a collective presence in the market supported by SODEC.
  • Administration costs and sales taxes collected by national and foreign governments.

Selection criteria

  • Quality and originality of presentations outside Quebec.
  • Relevance of the strategy to develop external markets.
  • Experience of managers in developing the international careers of artists.
  • Realism of project costs.
  • Impact on the careers of represented artists; for promotion projects, diversity of commercial methods and coherence of the overall promotion plan in the target market; financial risk assumed by the gallery in its outside Quebec activities.

  • Include the project description, detailed budget and gross sales information requested for the application.
  • Ensure the application is fully completed and signed by an authorized person.

Processing and Agreement

  • SODEC professionals analyze the applications and may seek external opinions if necessary.
  • SODEC may request supporting documents related to declared revenues and expenses.
  • The final payment is conditional on submission and acceptance of the final report.
