Overview

SODEXPORT – Component 1: Strategic Development of Companies Abroad provides grants of up to $160,000 to support Quebec music and variety companies in implementing commercial strategies to promote and market multiple artists or productions outside Quebec. Eligible activities include promotional campaigns, international travel, accommodation, marketing, production of promotional material, and related commercial development expenses over a two-year project period.

Financing terms and conditions

  • The grant covers up to 50% of eligible project expenses, to a maximum of $160,000.
  • The combined total of all government assistance cannot exceed 70% of the project's budget (including provincial and federal tax credits and other public/private contributions).
  • The applicant must finance at least 30% of the project budget from their own resources.
  • 70% of the grant is disbursed upon signing the financial agreement; the remaining 30% is payable upon completion of project activities and submission of a final report.

Activities funded

  • Planning and execution of multi-artist and multi-market promotional and marketing campaigns for Quebec music or variety productions outside Quebec.
  • International commercial development initiatives to expand or strengthen markets for Quebec music and variety companies over a two-year period.
  • For music publishers only, organization of international co-writing or songwriting camps involving Quebec and foreign songwriters under contract.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must operate in the fields of fine crafts, the art market, or interactive works related to these sectors.
  • The applicant must meet the Quebec ownership requirements specific to the SODEC support program relevant to their sector.
  • The company’s head office must be located in Quebec, serving as both its decision-making center and actual management location.
  • Eligible applicants include for-profit businesses (including sole proprietorships), non-profit organizations, cooperatives, consortiums of Quebec companies, and sector associations of cultural enterprises.

  • Companies operating in the fields of fine crafts and the art market
  • Companies producing interactive works within these domains
  • For-profit businesses (including sole proprietorships)
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Cooperatives, consortia formed by Quebec companies, and sectoral associations of cultural enterprises

Who is not eligible

  • Companies that do not operate in the cultural sectors of fine crafts and the art market.
  • Enterprises that cannot demonstrate Quebec ownership as required by the SODEC program guidelines.
  • Companies whose head office and true decision-making centre are not located in Quebec.
  • Applicants who have not fulfilled their obligations under previous SODEC programs, including SODEXPORT.
  • Enterprises that cannot demonstrate contractual relationships with at least five Quebec artists, groups, or ensembles (excluding shareholder artists).

Eligible expenses

  • International and local transportation costs in economy class.
  • Accommodation expenses in targeted territories.
  • Expenses for promotional, press, and advertising activities (both traditional and digital).
  • Costs for producing promotional materials designed for export activities in the targeted markets.
  • Radio tracking fees.
  • Accreditation and space rental fees when there is no collective presence in the supported market by SODEC.
  • Salaries of company personnel related to implementing the commercial strategy and consulting fees for independent experts for work conducted abroad and contract negotiations (maximum of 20% of the granted aid).
  • Legal fees related to commercial agreements outside Quebec.
  • Interpreter fees.
  • Other relevant and necessary expenses for the implementation of the commercial or international development strategy.

Eligible geographic areas

  • Companies with their head office (where the actual decision-making and management are conducted) in Quebec.

Selection criteria

  • Clarity and relevance of the commercial strategy in relation to the development of the company and the artists concerned.
  • Capacity of the company to carry out the project, including its export experience.
  • Significance of the anticipated benefits of the proposed activities.
  • Quality of the selected service providers.
  • Realism of the projected costs.

Prepare required documentation

  • Gather all required documents, ensuring they are complete, current, valid, dated, and signed by authorized personnel
  • Download the latest application templates specific to the relevant component
  • Prepare the justification text, a comprehensive promotional plan, contracts with artists, and budget grids as requested

Submit application in SOD@ccès

  • Access the secure SOD@ccès electronic portal
  • Create a user profile or log in using existing credentials
  • Select the program number corresponding to Component 1 (40-53-01)
  • Complete the online application form
  • Upload all required documents in the portal

Evaluation and review of application

  • Await the review and evaluation of your application by SODEC professionals or external advisors if needed
  • SODEC considers the clarity of the business strategy, company's experience, quality of services, and financial availability in its evaluation

Sign agreement and receive funds

  • Upon approval, sign the financial assistance agreement with SODEC
  • Receive the first installment (70%) of the grant

Submit final report for final payment

  • Upon completion of project activities, submit a final report to SODEC
  • Include detailed description of activities, any changes, project outcomes, press reviews, and financial report with sources of funding
  • The remaining 30% of the grant is released after report approval

  • All applications must be submitted through the SOD@ccès secure online portal, and only complete, compliant applications will be considered.
  • Regularly updated templates for application documents are available and must be used; applicants should always download the latest versions prior to submission.
  • Financial aid decisions are contingent upon the availability of funding and the necessary budgetary approvals by the National Assembly.
  • SODEC reserves the right to request supporting documents for reported revenues and expenses at any time.
