Since its creation in 1961, the APCHQ has grown to become the principal representative body for residential construction and renovation across Québec. Operating as a private, non-profit federation supported by a network of 13 regional associations, it now brings together over 28,000 companies active in residential building and renovation. The APCHQ provides a broad array of services to its members — including technical documentation, legal and labour-relations support, payroll and personnel management tools, health and safety resources, as well as certification and training programs.
Through its role as employer-representative, the APCHQ has, since 1995, held the mandate to negotiate collective agreements on behalf of employers in the residential construction sector, thereby shaping working conditions and standards across the industry. In addition, it has established itself as a central resource for construction professionals seeking to improve skills, comply with evolving standards, and adopt best practices.
Quality of housing and sustainability stand at the heart of its vision: the APCHQ has for decades promoted responsible construction and renovation practices. Its involvement in sustainable housing dates back to its collaboration in the development of the R-2000 standard, and is reaffirmed in its most recent strategic plan. Through continuing education, technical tools and certification programs, the APCHQ encourages builders and renovators to adopt practices that reduce environmental impacts while enhancing durability and overall housing quality.
As mandataire of financial-support programs, the APCHQ is well positioned to channel funding and coordinate support across its vast membership. By mobilizing its network, offering technical guidance, verification, certification, and follow-up, the organization ensures that funded projects meet quality, safety, and sustainability criteria. Its holistic approach — combining training, oversight, legal and technical support — helps simplify the administrative and regulatory aspects for entrepreneurs, while aligning renovations and new constructions with broader policy goals of housing affordability, quality and sustainable development.
In short, the APCHQ acts as a unifying force and a catalyst for social and economic development in Québec: it represents the interests of professionals; supports their growth and professionalization; ensures compliance with standards; champions durable, high-quality housing; and — as mandataire de programmes de soutien — plays an essential role in channeling financial aid toward projects that contribute to a sustainable and livable built environment.
