Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Professional artists from all disciplines supported by the CALQ.
  • Independent curators in visual arts, arts and crafts, architectural research, digital arts, and film and video art.
  • Individuals carrying out on their own an activity covered by the program.

Who is not eligible

  • Applicants who have resided outside Québec for two or more years, unless they have maintained their status as Québec resident.

Eligible expenses

  • Remuneration for the applicant.
  • Project-related expenses, such as registration, internship or materials costs, or fees for professors or mentors.
  • Travel expenses and related costs, including vaccinations and visa fees.
  • Living expenses (accommodation and per diem, up to $200 per day per participant, in Canada and abroad).
  • Purchase of specialized equipment required for the project, provided it cannot be rented or is less expensive to purchase than rent (documentation required).

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Basic training projects and basic training expenses.
  • Projects to obtain a degree from the Ministère de l’Éducation et Enseignement supérieur at a college, university or specialized school.
  • Training projects eligible for Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) programs.
  • Participation as a resource person in colloquiums, seminars or other events.
  • Expenses already covered by support from public or private organizations or other sources of financing.

Selection criteria

  • Quality of the applicant’s past artistic work (40%).
  • Interest and relevance of the project, including the quality of the professional development program, choice of host structure, master or mentor, and the impact on the development of the applicant’s artistic practice (60%).
  • Appropriateness of the applicant’s remuneration (Administrative – must be satisfactory).
  • Feasibility of the work plan and budget (Administrative – must be satisfactory).

How to apply

  • Log in via the Government Authentication Service to access Mon dossier CALQ.
  • Complete the online form in Mon dossier CALQ.
  • If this transmission mode is not available for the program or you cannot use it, send the file by WeTransfer using the instructions on the Application form – detail project.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are first reviewed by CALQ program staff for eligibility and general fit with the program.
  • Eligible applications are then assessed by a jury, and assessors may be used when needed.
  • The jury makes recommendations to the board of directors, which ratifies the decisions; decisions are final and without appeal.
  • Applicants are informed of the decision about four months after submission.
  • If approved, the confirmation letter includes the terms and conditions for using the funding.

Additional information

  • You may not have more than three projects under consideration, supported, or underway at the same time within CALQ programs.
  • All grant recipients must submit a report detailing the use of funds within three months after the project's completion.
  • Personal data and documents submitted are kept confidential in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.
  • Results are communicated approximately four months after submission, and all CALQ decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
