Overview

The Technology Showcase – Pre-commercialization of Innovation grant offers up to $250,000 in non-repayable funding to support pilot projects that validate or demonstrate innovative products or processes. Eligible activities include testing, validation, or demonstration initiatives conducted within operations in Québec City or other organizations.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Non-repayable contribution of up to $250,000 per project.
  • Maximum coverage of 50% of eligible expenses for priority sectors.
  • Maximum coverage of 35% of eligible expenses for strategic sectors.
  • Cumulative funding limit of $500,000 over two years from economic development programs of Ville de Québec.

  • Testing new equipment or technology through pilot projects within operational environments.
  • Pre-commercial demonstration of innovative products or processes in collaboration with organizations such as municipalities or other enterprises.
  • Validation initiatives for new technologies to prove their effectiveness before full market launch.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a private incorporated company, or a social economy enterprise (non-profit or cooperative) with primarily commercial activities.
  • Indigenous sole proprietorships and partnerships located in Wendake are also eligible.
  • The applicant must have its head office in the Quebec City agglomeration (including Quebec City, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, L’Ancienne-Lorette) or Wendake, or maintain a significant place of business in Quebec City.
  • The project must involve the validation or pre-commercial demonstration of an innovative product or process and be in the form of a pilot project or showcase within the operations of the City of Quebec or another organization.
  • The applicant must hold intellectual property rights or exclusive usage rights for the product or process within the relevant territory.

Who is eligible?

  • Incorporated private companies
  • Social economy enterprises (non-profits and cooperatives) with primarily commercial activities
  • Individually owned enterprises and partnerships majority-owned by Indigenous persons and located in Wendake

Who is not eligible

  • Social economy enterprises (nonprofits and cooperatives) unable to demonstrate sound democratic governance.
  • Applicants not released from bankruptcy judgment.
  • Companies listed on the Register of Enterprises Not Eligible for Public Contracts.
  • Applicants who have defaulted on previous financial aid obligations to the Ville de Québec in the past two years, after formal notice.
  • Projects of a discriminatory, controversial nature, or that could present a negative image for Ville de Québec; and event-based projects.

Eligible expenses

  • Professional fees, consulting services, and studies related to the project.
  • Pre-startup, startup expenses, and initial working capital required for project implementation.
  • Salaries for human resources assigned to the project, at the hourly rate set by the company policy and documented accordingly.
  • Purchase or rental of goods, equipment, and assets connected to the project.
  • General and administrative expenses necessary for the execution of the project.

Eligible geographic areas

  • Companies with a head office in the agglomeration of Québec (cities of Québec, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, and L’Ancienne-Lorette) and Wendake
  • Organizations with a significant place of business in Québec

Selection criteria

  • Quality and robustness of the responsible business model.
  • Financial capacity of the applicant to complete the project and achieve objectives.
  • Viability and coherence of the submitted project, including relevance, realistic financial structure, and involved partners.
  • Distinctive and innovative nature of the project.
  • Economic, social, and environmental impacts in the Québec agglomeration.
