Who is eligible?
- Professional artists from all disciplines supported by the CALQ.
- Independent curators recognized in visual arts, arts and crafts, architectural research, digital arts, and film and video art.
- Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who normally reside in Québec and have resided there for at least the preceding 12 months.
- Shareholders of a corporation, partners of a partnership, or employees of a non-profit organization may apply only for personal projects that are not part of the activities of the company or organization in question.
Who is not eligible
- Applicants who have resided outside Québec for two or more years, unless they have maintained their status as a Québec resident.
- Independent curators employed full time as curators in an arts organization.
Eligible expenses
- Artist remuneration and fees for participating artists and partners.
- Research, development, and rehearsal expenses.
- Studio, workshop, and equipment rental costs.
- Creation residency expenses, travel, accommodation, and per diem.
- Visa fees and specialized equipment when required for the project.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Expenses related to presenting shows or to the publication or presentation of works.
- Expenses for copyediting or proofreading text.
- Printing expenses, except photography printing expenses.
- Promotional expenses.
- Administration expenses and expenses covered by aid granted by public or private organizations or other sources of funding.
Selection criteria
- Artistic evaluation of the project: 100%.
- Quality of artistic work: 30%, based on the quality of the candidate’s past work.
- Interest and relevance of the project: 70%, based on artistic value, team composition if applicable, impact on the evolution of the candidate’s work, and project impact and benefits.
- Administrative evaluation: artist remuneration and project management must each receive a rating of Satisfactory.
- For commissioned works, the feasibility of the work plan, the feasibility of the budget, and the size of the partner’s contribution are assessed; funding decisions also seek balance between generations, genders, ethnocultural groups and regions of Québec.
How to apply
- Access Mon dossier CALQ and complete the online form.
- If the online transmission mode is not available for the program or you cannot use it, send the application file by WeTransfer using the instructions provided on the Application form – detail project.
Processing and Agreement
- The CALQ sends an email acknowledgement of receipt, and applicants registered for Mon dossier CALQ can track the progress of their file online.
- Applications are first considered by CALQ program managers based on eligibility conditions and the general objectives of the program.
- Eligible applications are evaluated by juries recognized for their skill in the disciplines in question, and assessors may also be called upon when necessary.
- The jury makes recommendations to the board of directors, which ratifies them; decisions are final and not subject to appeal. Funding decisions are based on peer assessment and take into account the relative value of projects and the credits available, while seeking balance between generations, genders, ethnocultural groups and regions of Québec.
- The CALQ informs applicants of the decision around four months after submission; accepted applicants receive a confirmation letter with grant terms and conditions, and grant use reports must be submitted within three months after project completion and approved before a new application.
