Enbridge Gaz Québec is a key player in Quebec’s energy landscape, with a history spanning more than six decades. The company began operations in 1959 under the name Gazifère, establishing itself as the natural gas distributor for the Outaouais region, serving the city of Gatineau and nearby areas. At the same time, another company, Gaz Métro, was expanding across the rest of Quebec before rebranding as Énergir in 2017. Gazifère, meanwhile, became affiliated with Enbridge Inc. nearly 30 years ago, continuing its mission as a local distributor in the Outaouais. In November 2024, on its 65th anniversary, the company took a new step by adopting the name Enbridge Gaz Québec, aligning its identity with its parent company and reaffirming its long-term vision.

Today, Enbridge Gaz Québec is one of only two authorized natural gas distributors in the province. With around 100 employees, the company operates a network of approximately 1,000 km of pipelines across the Outaouais, supplying more than 43,500 residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial customers in Gatineau and Chelsea. Its core mission is to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy while maintaining the highest standards of quality and community safety.

Beyond distribution, Enbridge Gaz Québec plays a leading role in promoting energy efficiency. Acting as an administrator of financial support programs, it provides incentives to encourage customers to lower their energy use and adopt high-performance equipment. These initiatives target both individuals and businesses and pursue diverse goals: reducing natural gas consumption, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, offering technical guidance to optimize installations, and supporting tailor-made energy efficiency projects. Whether through simple conservation tips or large-scale initiatives, these programs demonstrate the company’s commitment to helping customers consume energy more wisely.
