Selection criteria
- Company profile (10%): experience commercializing the same type of crop, an established network of certified seed producers, a specimen agreement between the promoter and producer, and elimination of unused seed stocks.
- Production and marketing strategy (35%): commercial promotion and advertising plans, variety protection plans, planned sales sector, creativity of the marketing plan, seed multiplication and distribution method, planting area, production schedule, planned seed volumes, and protection against unauthorized sale or distribution.
- Financial offer (35%): initial fees and royalty rate based on gross price or per tonne.
- Investment (20%): total annual cash and in-kind investment with AAFC over the last two years, including trial support, provincial registration fees, demonstration sites, innovative methods, and research and development support.
How to apply
- Request a Material Transfer Agreement for the selections that interest you.
- Submit $100 fee per selection plus applicable taxes.
- Submit Selection Specific Cash Bid.
Processing and Agreement
- The program uses a two-phase process to fast track the release of promising potato selections.
- Phase two follows the non-exclusive testing period and allows companies to submit cash bids for exclusive testing.
- An eight-year, renewable license to commercialize a selection may be negotiated at the end of testing, or sooner at the request of the company.
