Overview

The "Taking Action for Wildlife" program provides financial support covering up to 75% of eligible project costs for the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of wildlife habitats across Quebec. Eligible activities include habitat planning and restoration, knowledge transfer, voluntary conservation, and evaluation of wildlife project outcomes.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Financial assistance can cover up to 75% of eligible project costs, with a maximum support period of 24 months.
  • For projects located north of the 49th parallel, funding through the Fonds pour la faune nordique may cover up to 80% of eligible project costs, also for a maximum of 24 months.
  • Administrative and office expenses are eligible up to a maximum of 10% of total eligible expenditures.

  • Developing conservation strategies for wildlife habitats within a given territory.
  • Promoting the involvement of private landowners in the conservation of wildlife habitats.
  • Facilitating knowledge sharing about effective ways to protect, restore, or enhance wildlife habitats.
  • Evaluating the outcomes of wildlife habitat management projects and developing new conservation or habitat management tools.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a legally constituted organization; individuals are not eligible.
  • The project must focus on the conservation, enhancement, or restoration of wildlife habitats in Quebec and must not be eligible under the Foundation's other aid programs.
  • The project must address objectives such as maintaining habitat connectivity, increasing wildlife productivity, or promoting voluntary conservation initiatives.
  • The initiative must be carried out within Quebec, demonstrating the wildlife value of the targeted habitats.

  • Legally constituted organizations
  • Local and regional organizations engaged in wildlife habitat conservation
  • Municipal organizations
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Hunter, fisher, and trapper associations

Who is not eligible

  • Individuals (private persons), as only legally constituted organizations are eligible.

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries and regular benefits for staff involved in project coordination, supervision, and implementation.
  • Fees for specialists and external consultants.
  • Acquisition of materials, tools, and light equipment required for the project.
  • Rental costs for machinery or equipment.
  • Transport and installation expenses for project equipment.
  • Rental or depreciation costs for IT equipment used during the project (up to 33% of equipment value per year for up to three years).
  • Administrative and office expenses (including office space, supplies, photocopying, telephony, postage, accounting), up to 10% of total eligible expenses.

Eligible geographic areas

  • All private and public territories within Quebec where the wildlife habitat value is clearly demonstrated.
  • For additional funding under the Nordic Wildlife Fund: Northern Quebec, north of the 49th parallel, the St. Lawrence River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Selection criteria

  • Quality and degree of planning of the project proposal.
  • Expertise and capacity of the applicant to implement and monitor the project.
  • Expected results for wildlife habitats and biodiversity.
  • Priority of the proposed activity within the program's focus areas.
  • Technical and financial feasibility of the project.
