Overview

The Public Transit Development Assistance Program – Stream 2 provides financial support of up to $100,000 for regional public transit initiatives aimed at maintaining, improving, or expanding services outside major urban centers. Eligible activities include the organization and operation of transit services, creation of regional consultation tables, and implementation of technological tools to enhance service interconnection.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a municipal authority listed in the official list of eligible organizations for regional public transit financial assistance, or a non-profit organization or mobility service provider (for technological tools projects) under certain conditions.
  • The project must be implemented within the territory of the eligible applicant or, in the case of collaborative or interconnection projects, involve coordinated regional action.
  • For regional transit operations and tables of consultation, only authorities or groupings indicated in the official eligibility list may apply.
  • Each applicant may submit only one project per type (operational support, regional consultation table, or technological tools) within the same program period.

  • Municipal authorities listed in the official list of eligible municipal organizations for regional public transit and intercity bus transport financial assistance
  • Non-profit organizations (NPOs)
  • Organizations offering mobility services, under certain conditions
  • Regional tables of consultation or similar multi-municipal entities

Who is not eligible

  • Companies and organizations not listed as eligible municipal authorities.
  • Businesses that are not non-profit organizations (NPOs) or entities providing mobility services, where applicable.
  • Private, for-profit enterprises not serving regional public transit or not offering mobility solutions.

  • Operational and organizational costs for regional public transit services.
  • Expenses related to the implementation of technological tools to improve service interconnection.
  • Costs associated with the establishment and functioning of regional public transit coordination committees.
  • Development and acquisition costs for technological solutions aimed at integrating and coordinating transit services.

Additional information

  • The financial assistance allotted cannot result in the creation of an annual surplus; any non-reinvested surplus will be deducted from future allocations.
  • Only one project per eligible organization can be approved for technological tools acquisition or development within a five-year period.
  • For technology projects, implementation must be completed within a maximum of two years from project authorization.
