Overview

The Greater Montreal Climate Fund’s 2025-2026 Call for Projects offers up to $50,000 per project to support innovative, scalable initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Greater Montreal area. Eligible activities include pilot projects, original or adapted climate solutions, and projects that directly contribute to GHG reduction while fostering socio-economic benefits for communities.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Total grant budget of $250,000 for the program.
  • Maximum funding per project is $50,000.
  • The grant can cover up to 80% of the total project costs; the remaining 20% must be provided as matching funds or in-kind contributions, excluding federal funding sources.
  • Administrative costs covered by the grant must not exceed 15% of the granted amount.
  • Funding is disbursed in two installments: 80% upon signing the grant agreement and 20% upon submission of the project report.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a nonprofit organization, university, college, educational institution, municipal organization, state-owned corporation, or registered charity.
  • The project must be implemented within the territory of the Greater Montreal area, specifically in one or more of the 82 municipalities of the Montreal Metropolitan Community or in the territories of Kanesatake or Kahnawake.
  • The project must contribute directly and concretely to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Greater Montreal, with expected reductions over the next 10 years, following a credible methodology.
  • The project must be replicable and have potential for scaling up, with demonstrated socio-economic co-benefits for the community and an equitable and inclusive approach.
  • The project must have financial support or a commitment of support from at least one other partner, which may include the applicant organization itself.

Eligible expenses

  • Professional fees, including studies, engineering, and specialized consulting services directly related to the project.
  • Costs for purchasing goods and equipment necessary for the implementation of planned project activities.
  • Labor costs directly related to the project.
  • Training costs specifically for the operationalization of the project.
  • Communication and awareness-raising expenses directly linked to the project.
  • Travel expenses necessary for the implementation of project activities (subject to standard policies).
  • Administrative costs related to the project, up to 15% of the granted amount.

Eligible geographic areas

  • One or more of the 82 municipalities of the Montreal Metropolitan Community (Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, CMM).
  • The territory of Kanesatake.
  • The territory of Kahnawake.

Selection criteria

  • Demonstrated potential to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, supported by a credible and reasonable quantification methodology.
  • Long-term structural impact and engagement of multiple stakeholders.
  • Integration of equity and inclusion principles, including consideration of impacts on vulnerable populations affected by climate change.
  • Additional cross-cutting benefits beyond GHG reductions, such as improvements in health, safety, environmental conservation, community resilience, or changes in practices and behaviors.
  • Replicability and scalability of the project within the Greater Montreal area, with accessible results after completion.

  • Make any modifications prior to submitting, as changes are not possible after submission

  • Submit the application form online, by email, or by postal mail
  • Ensure submission is completed by the deadline (October 30, 2025)
  • Retain the confirmation of submission for your records

  • Wait for the review and selection process (November 2025)

Additional information

  • Projects must produce a report, at least part of which may be made public, within one month after the project's end date.
  • Organizations may submit multiple project applications.
  • A virtual information session will be held on September 22, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for interested applicants.
  • The online application form can be saved and edited before final submission; however, applications cannot be modified after submission.
