Overview

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Participant Funding Program supports individuals, Indigenous groups and not-for-profit organizations taking part in CNSC environmental assessment and licensing processes. It helps participants contribute value-added information through informed interventions related to project reviews, Commission proceedings and other engagement activities.

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Individuals or organizational representatives
  • Indigenous groups
  • Not-for-profit organizations
  • One individual may apply on behalf of an unincorporated association or group of individuals

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit organizations
  • Applicants with a direct commercial interest in the project
  • People who work for the project proponent
  • Applicants representing another level of government other than an Indigenous government

Eligible expenses

  • Professional fees
  • Travel and incidentals
  • Honoraria for chiefs or elders, or holders of Indigenous traditional knowledge or community knowledge
  • Administrative costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Capital expenditures, construction costs, and renovation of buildings
  • Lost income
  • Salaries and benefits
  • General operations and maintenance costs
  • Legal representation

Selection criteria

  • Participant funding will only be provided to funding applicants whose proposed activities are expected to bring value-added information to the CNSC
  • Available funding will be distributed among successful applicants based on the merit of their proposals

How to apply

  • Consult the PFP funding opportunities page to access the project-specific application form
  • Complete the project-specific application form using the instructions provided in the form and the PFP Guide
  • Review, sign and date the form, keep a copy for your records, and submit it to the CNSC’s PFP Administrator by email, fax or mail

Processing and Agreement

  • The PFP administrator notifies the applicant within one business day of receiving the application and starts the review and approval process.
  • An independent funding review committee reviews the application and recommends whether funding should be approved, including the amount and any objectives the recipient must meet.
  • The PFP administrator notifies the applicant of the CNSC's final decision within 25 business days of the closing date for the application process.
  • The CNSC issues a contribution agreement to successful applicants.
  • Funding payments are issued once recipients have met the objectives in the contribution agreement and submitted the required deliverable and final financial report.
