Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Individuals

  • For-profit organizations
  • Applicants with a direct commercial interest in the project
  • People who work for the project proponent
  • Applicants that represent another level of government, other than an Indigenous government

Eligible expenses

  • Professional fees
  • Travel and incidentals
  • Honoraria for chiefs or elders, or holders of Indigenous traditional knowledge or community knowledge
  • Administrative costs
  • Other costs as defined and approved by the CNSC and an independent funding review committee (FRC), on a case-by-case basis

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Capital expenditures, construction costs and renovation of buildings
  • Lost income
  • Salaries and benefits
  • General operations and maintenance costs
  • Fees for legal representation

Selection criteria

  • An independent Funding Review Committee reviews the application and recommends whether funding should be approved, including the amount and any objectives.
  • Available funding is distributed among successful applicants based on the merit of their proposals.

How to apply

  • Consult the PFP funding opportunities page to learn more about the project description and access the project-specific application form.
  • Complete the project-specific PFP application form following the detailed instructions provided for the application steps and criteria in the PFP Guide.
  • Submit the completed application form by the deadline stated on the form.

Processing and Agreement

  • If approved, recipients sign a contribution agreement.
  • Recipients use the funding to support their participation in the CNSC process for that project.
  • Recipients submit required reports so eligible expenses can be reimbursed.
  • Recipients must submit receipts and invoices with the Final Financial Report if the maximum amount of funding under the Contribution Agreement exceeds $30,000 or when requested by the CNSC.
  • Recipients are strongly encouraged to retain all receipts for at least three years in the event of an audit.
