Participant Funding Program updated
The former project-specific notice for the Regulatory Oversight Report on the Use of Nuclear Substances in Canada: 2016 has been replaced with a general Participant Funding Program page. The new page now shows an open opportunity for Ontario Power Generation’s licence renewal for the Western Waste Management Facility, with a maximum of $200,000 and an application period from March 25 to June 16, 2026. The page also rewrites who can apply, what expenses may be covered, how to apply, and how applications are reviewed and paid. Applicants are now told that decisions are issued within 45 business days after the closing date, or after receipt when there is no closing date, and payment is made within 30 days of a valid final financial report.

Selection criteria
- Available funding will be distributed among successful applicants based on the merit of their proposals.
How to apply
- Consult the PFP funding opportunities to learn more about the project description and access the project-specific application form.
- Complete the PFP application form using the detailed instructions provided in the form and the Participant Funding Program Guide.
- Review, sign and date the form, keep a copy for your records, and agree to the CNSC’s PFP terms and conditions before submitting your application.
- Submit the signed application to the CNSC’s PFP Administrator by email, fax or mail.
Processing and Agreement
- The PFP administrator will notify you within one business day of receipt of your application and initiate the review and approval process.
- An independent funding review committee composed of a panel of external experts will review your application and recommend whether your funding request should be approved, including the amount and any objectives you will have to meet.
- The PFP administrator will then notify you of the CNSC’s final decision within 25 business days of the closing date for the application process.
- The CNSC will issue a contribution agreement to all successful PFP funding applicants, and successful applicants must sign and return it.
- Funding payments are issued once recipients have met the objectives in their contribution agreement, submitted a final financial report detailing eligible expenses, completed a recipient survey, and retained receipts for at least three years in the event of an audit.
