The CALQ — Distribution of works in Quebec program provides non-recurring financial assistance covering up to 75% of eligible project costs to support the dissemination and promotion of literary and storytelling works across Quebec. The grant aims to increase the visibility of professional writers and storytellers through tours, literary activities, and public engagement initiatives.
Financing terms and conditions
- The maximum financial assistance granted may not exceed 75% of the total project cost.
- If the actual project budget exceeds the eligible funding threshold, the Council may request reimbursement of the excess amount.
- All grants awarded are non-recurring (one-time only for each project).
Activities funded
- Presentation and dissemination of literary works or storytelling performances by professional writers or storytellers across Quebec.
- Initiatives aimed at developing and engaging audiences for literature and storytelling in various regions of Quebec.
- Organization of literary or storytelling events primarily led by writers, storytellers, or recognized professionals in the field.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be a legally constituted non-profit organization with its head office in Quebec.
- The organization must primarily carry out its activities in the literary or storytelling fields, supporting, promoting, or distributing the work of professional writers and storytellers.
- The organization’s board of directors must be composed mainly of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who habitually reside in Quebec.
- The project must involve the participation of professional writers, artists, or recognized practitioners in the literary or storytelling discipline, with confirmation of at least three presentations or activities.
- The application must be submitted at least three months before the start of the project.

- Professional organizations in the field of literature and storytelling
- Organizations dedicated to the creation, production, and dissemination in literature and storytelling
- Regional associations of authors in literature and storytelling
- Service organizations supporting the development of literature and storytelling sectors
Who is not eligible
- Organizations whose programming is mostly composed of non-professional activities.
- Book fairs, school and public libraries, library management organizations, bookstores, and publishing houses.
- Events, projects, or tours already supported under another CALQ or SODEC program.
- Organizations receiving specific program funding for the period covered by the project.
- Incomplete applications.
Eligible expenses
- Fees and honoraria paid to writers, storytellers, and artists.
- Promotion and publicity expenses (if not covered by the host organization).
- Travel and accommodation expenses related to the tour (maximum of $200 per day for accommodation).
- Equipment rental costs, if applicable.
- Management fees specifically related to the tour.
- Expenses incurred for implementing eco-responsible measures or practices.
Eligible geographic areas
- Organizations with their registered office in Quebec.
- Activities primarily carried out within the province of Quebec.
Selection criteria
- Artistic quality of the project, including the quality, relevance, originality, and variety of activities or performances.
- Capacity of the applicant to successfully carry out the project.
- Relevance of the venues and organizations involved, as well as those visited.
- Impact of the project on the enrichment of literary and artistic life, the visibility of professional writers and storytellers, and the development of the applicant organization.
- Project management, including the level of self-financing, diversity of revenue sources, contribution of partners, realistic budget forecasts, efforts in remunerating artists and collaborators, and efforts towards eco-responsibility.

Complete and submit the application
- Fill out the online application form via Mon dossier CALQ
- Attach all required documents and confirmations
- Ensure the completeness of your application, as no supplementary annexes or late documents will be accepted

Await results from CALQ
- Wait for acknowledgement of receipt and follow application status in Mon dossier CALQ
- Expect a decision approximately three months after submission
5
Accept and sign the grant agreement
- If accepted, receive the confirmation letter outlining funding conditions
- Sign and return the agreement as instructed
6
Submit final report
- At project completion, submit a report on the use of the grant
- Provide required activity and financial reports within three months after project end
Additional information
- A decision regarding grant applications is typically communicated within approximately three months after submission.
- All documents required for assessment must be submitted together; unsolicited annexes or materials sent after the application deadline will not be considered.
- Decisions made by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec’s board regarding grant allocations are final and cannot be appealed.
- The confidentiality of information and documents submitted is protected under applicable Quebec legislation.
