Overview
The Alberta Innovates Micro Voucher Program offers up to $10,000 in non-dilutive funding to help Alberta-based tech companies design and develop innovative technological solutions. Eligible activities include design, engineering, prototype development, product testing, patent development, market assessment, certifications, and other technology development initiatives.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be a for-profit business registered in Alberta, operating as a Corporation, General Partnership, Limited Partnership, or Limited Liability Partnership.
- The company must have fewer than 500 full-time employees and less than $50 million in annual gross revenue.
- The business must have a significant operational and corporate presence in Alberta, with operational benefits intended to flow primarily within the province.
- The project must involve the design or development of an innovative technology with potential for intellectual property, and have clearly defined functional requirements and features.
- The company must be able to contribute at least 25% of the total eligible project costs in cash.

Who is not eligible
There are specific types of companies that are not eligible for this grant:
- Organizations with 500 or more full-time employees.
- Companies with annual gross revenue exceeding $50,000,000.
Eligible expenses
- Design, engineering, and prototype development costs.
- Product testing and refinement expenses.
- Patent development fees (excluding patent maintenance fees).
- Costs for advanced market assessment or segmentation analysis.
- Certification expenses.
- Development of advanced business and marketing strategies.
Eligible geographic areas
- Companies based in Alberta, Canada.
Selection criteria
- Alignment of the application with the Micro Voucher Program objectives and intended outcomes.
How to apply

Project Scoping (Identify Project Need)
- Identify the project need and obtain a quote from a service provider to complete the project.
- Engage with a Technology Development Advisor (TDA) to assess readiness and receive guidance.
- Consider other Alberta Innovates funding programs or external funding opportunities if needed.

Application & Evaluation (Submit Application Form)
- Access and submit the application form via the online application portal at any time.
- Include details such as the current state of the opportunity, business readiness, service provider participation, intended project benefits, and current financial status.

Project Management (Execution and Monitoring)
- Execute an Investment Agreement with Alberta Innovates upon approval of the application.
- Work with an assigned TDA, if not already engaged, to monitor project progress and receive coaching.

- The application intake operates on a continuous basis, allowing submissions at any time.
- Expert reviewers, including both Alberta Innovates staff and external specialists, participate in the evaluation of applications.
