Who is eligible?

The AFA embraces diversity and provides equitable program access to all, not limited by any barriers of discrimination. Artists from various backgrounds can apply, including Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, women, people with disabilities, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person residing in Alberta for at least a year prior to application. You must primarily live in Alberta at least six months a year, unless attending a formal study program. Applicants and any ensembles should not be incorporated under provincial or federal laws. Also, you must be in good standing with the AFA, with no pending projects or reports, and you can only receive this grant once in your career.


Who is not eligible

This grant opportunity is designed for individual artists and curators rather than businesses or organizations. The eligibility criteria emphasize personal artistic development within Alberta's community.

  • Incorporated companies and organizations under provincial or federal legislation are not eligible.
