  • Construction, renovation, upgrade, expansion, or purchase of a public-use facility
  • Equipment integral to the facility project, including appliances and furniture
  • Costs for review engagement reports or audited financial statements

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Retroactive expenses incurred before application submission
  • Application preparation, fundraising, ceremonies, and related planning activities
  • Standalone feasibility, needs assessment, and planning drawings
  • Debt reduction, interest, financing charges, and leasing costs
  • Administrative, operational, volunteer, and miscellaneous costs

How to apply

  • Step 1: Register for GATE Front Office
    • Register at least 10 business days before the EOI deadline.
    • Use the registration form or contact the program office.
  • Step 2: Submit the Expression of Interest
    • Complete and submit the EOI online through GATE Front Office.
    • Wait for the eligibility and readiness review.
  • Step 3: Receive an invitation to apply
    • Only eligible projects are invited to the full application stage.
  • Step 4: Submit the full application
    • Upload the complete application and required supporting documents in GATE Front Office.
    • Submit within the 45-day window after invitation.

Processing and Agreement

  • Expression of Interest is reviewed first to determine eligibility and readiness
  • Only eligible projects are invited to submit a full application
  • Applications are reviewed against program criteria and supporting documents
  • Applicants receive written notification by email, usually around December
  • A formal grant agreement is required before funding is released

Additional information

  • Only one capital project application per year is allowed through CFEP Large, CFEP Small, or CIP Project-Based.
  • Successful recipients must keep records for seven years after file closure.
  • Recipients must use the Government of Alberta acknowledgment requirements outlined in the grant agreement.
  • Approval does not create a long-term funding commitment for future projects.
