Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Non-profit organizations (including ethnocultural, multicultural, and faith-based organizations)
- Indigenous governments, tribal councils, band councils, settlements, and not-for-profit Indigenous organizations
- Community development organizations
- For-profit organizations (only as primary applicant in partnership with an Indigenous and/or ethnocultural organization)
- Public sector entities and arms-length municipal or municipal district affiliated organizations (only as primary applicant in partnership with an Indigenous and/or ethnocultural organization)
Who is not eligible
- Individuals
- Political parties
- Federal or provincial crown corporations (applying for individual projects)
- Federal, provincial, or municipal governments (applying for individual projects)
- For-profit organizations, public sector entities, and arms-length municipal or municipal district affiliated organizations applying without an eligible Indigenous and/or ethnocultural partner
Eligible expenses
- Direct project delivery costs
- Costs to address barriers to accessing project activities
- Administrative costs (up to 15% of the grant budget)
- In-kind costs (if applicable)
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Costs for preparing funding applications or fundraising (including fundraising campaigns and fundraising websites)
- Expenses incurred and paid prior to application submission and the project start date
- Capital purchases and facility upgrades, renovations, or construction
- Government lobbying or political activism
- Goods and Services Tax (GST)
Eligible geographic areas

Processing and Agreement
- Applications received by the deadline are screened for eligibility.
- Eligible applications are referred for further evaluation and a funding recommendation.
- Applicants receive written notification of the decision (for 2025–26, decisions were to be communicated by April 15, 2026).
- If approved, program staff establish a grant agreement with the successful applicant.
- All decisions are final; no appeals are considered.
Additional information
- One application per organization per intake; one project funded per intake (across all streams).
- Successful applicants must publicly acknowledge Government of Alberta funding (for example, using the Government of Alberta logo and recognizing funding in communications).
- Projects must be completed by March 31, 2027; final outcomes and financial reporting is due within 60 days of project completion.
- Applications for the 2025–26 intake closed December 19, 2025 (5 pm MST).
