Overview
Provides up to $10,000 to support Alberta community organizations delivering anti-racism initiatives. Funding supports projects that combat discrimination and systemic racism through public education and activities aligned with the program’s outcomes and objectives.
Activities funded
- Initiatives that combat discrimination and address systemic racism through public education.
- Projects that enable Albertans to recognize and value cultural differences and heritage.
- Capacity-building initiatives that help community organizations support anti-racism projects.
- Projects supporting racialized communities’ participation in the community (for example, mentorship or navigation supports), where aligned to program outcomes.
- Projects that support open and honest conversations about racism and microaggressions, aligned to program outcomes.

Documents Needed
- Completed online grant application form (digitally signed by an authorized representative)

Eligibility
- Be an Alberta-based, Alberta-operating legal entity (incorporated or registered for at least 1 year) that is an eligible organization (for example, a non-profit, an Indigenous government/organization, or a community development organization).
- Submit a project that takes place in Alberta, benefits Albertans, and aligns with one or more program outcomes (and the chosen stream requirements).
- Plan a project that starts on or after April 1, 2026 and is completed by March 31, 2027.
- Be able to measure the project’s outcomes aligned to the program outcomes.
- If currently receiving other Government of Alberta funding, be up to date on required reporting to be considered.
Who is eligible?
- Non-profit organizations (including ethnocultural, multicultural, and faith-based organizations)
- Indigenous governments, tribal councils, band councils, settlements, and not-for-profit Indigenous organizations
- Community development organizations
- For-profit organizations (only as primary applicant in partnership with an Indigenous and/or ethnocultural organization)
- Public sector entities and arms-length municipal or municipal district affiliated organizations (only as primary applicant in partnership with an Indigenous and/or ethnocultural organization)

- Individuals
- Political parties
- Federal or provincial crown corporations (applying for individual projects)
- Federal, provincial, or municipal governments (applying for individual projects)
- For-profit organizations, public sector entities, and arms-length municipal or municipal district affiliated organizations applying without an eligible Indigenous and/or ethnocultural partner
Eligible expenses
- Direct project delivery costs
- Costs to address barriers to accessing project activities
- Administrative costs (up to 15% of the grant budget)
- In-kind costs (if applicable)
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Costs for preparing funding applications or fundraising (including fundraising campaigns and fundraising websites)
- Expenses incurred and paid prior to application submission and the project start date
- Capital purchases and facility upgrades, renovations, or construction
- Government lobbying or political activism
- Goods and Services Tax (GST)

- Organization’s capacity to achieve the project goals (based on application and supporting documents).
- Project viability (based on application information).
- Financial feasibility (based on the budget template and supporting documents).
How to apply

Confirm eligibility
- Confirm your organization is Alberta-based and eligible (non-profit, Indigenous government/organization, or community development organization)
- If you are a for-profit, public sector entity, or arms-length municipal organization, plan to apply as the primary applicant only in partnership with an Indigenous and/or ethnocultural organization
- Ensure you are up to date on reporting for any other Government of Alberta funding

Plan your project and stream
- Define a project that combats discrimination and addresses systemic racism through public education
- Select Stream 1 (aligns with outcomes under either objective) or Stream 2 (aligns with outcomes under both objectives)
- Plan for the project to start on or after April 1, 2026 and be completed by March 31, 2027
- Prepare a clear project timeline and show you have the capacity to deliver it

Build your project budget
- Prepare a detailed project budget using the Anti-Racism Grant budget template
- Ensure administrative costs are within 15% of the grant budget
- If including food costs, ensure they are not more than 20% of the total budget

Prepare required documents
- Gather your most recent financial statement (audited or unaudited), or a Council/Board Resolution signed by authorized representative(s)
- Complete the Application for Electronic Payment Form with direct deposit information issued within the past 3 months
- Prepare partnership and/or support letters if applicable (optional)
- If you received Government of Alberta funding in the past 3 years, compile the required details to upload in “Supporting Documents”

Create an Alberta.ca account
- Create an Alberta.ca Account for Organizations if you do not already have one

Submit the online application
- Sign in to the Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism Grant Programs portal using your Alberta.ca Account for Organizations
- Complete all required fields and digitally sign as the authorized representative
- Upload the budget template and all required supporting documents
- Submit the completed application online by the intake deadline

Await the funding decision
- Wait for eligibility screening and further evaluation after the submission deadline
- Watch for written notification of the decision by April 15, 2026 (for 2025–26)
Processing and Agreement
- Applications received by the deadline are screened for eligibility.
- Eligible applications are referred for further evaluation and a funding recommendation.
- Applicants receive written notification of the decision (for 2025–26, decisions were to be communicated by April 15, 2026).
- If approved, program staff establish a grant agreement with the successful applicant.
- All decisions are final; no appeals are considered.
Additional information
- One application per organization per intake; one project funded per intake (across all streams).
- Successful applicants must publicly acknowledge Government of Alberta funding (for example, using the Government of Alberta logo and recognizing funding in communications).
- Projects must be completed by March 31, 2027; final outcomes and financial reporting is due within 60 days of project completion.
- Applications for the 2025–26 intake closed December 19, 2025 (5 pm MST).
