Overview
The Heritage Preservation Partnership Program provides matching grants to preserve and interpret Alberta's heritage. Historic Resource Conservation Grants fund conservation work on Provincial Historic Resources (up to $100,000), Municipal Historic Resources and Indigenous Historic Places (up to $50,000 each). Additional funding of $25,000 is available for studies and professional services. Applicants must provide at least 50% of project costs.

- Incorporation document and list of executives/Board of Directors (for organizations)
- Band Council Resolution (for Indigenous Historic Places)
Eligibility
- Applicant must be owner or authorized steward of Alberta's historic places.
- Applicant must provide at least 50% of total project costs as matching contribution.
- Project must involve conservation work on Provincial, Municipal or Indigenous Historic Places.
- Conservation work must comply with Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada.
- Consultation with Heritage Conservation Adviser is required before application.

How to apply

Register for GATE Front Office account
- First-time users must register to get a GATE Front Office account before applying
- Organizations: download and complete the registration form, email it to acsw.registration.hppp@gov.ab.ca with the name and location of the historic resource
- Individuals: email your legal name, email address, and the name and location of the historic resource to acsw.registration.hppp@gov.ab.ca

Consult adviser and prepare budget
- Consult with your Heritage Conservation Adviser to ensure eligibility and project compliance
- Review the Guidelines for Historic Resource Conservation Grants
- Prepare a project budget and schedule

Prepare supporting documents
- Prepare invoices/receipts of completed work and estimates of proposed work
- For Municipal Historic Resources: include written approval from the municipality
- If applicant is not the legal owner: include authorization from the owner
- For organizations: include incorporation document and list of executives/Board of Directors

Complete applicant profile in GATE
- Log in to GATE Front Office portal
- Complete your applicant profile (organization or individual)
- Enter contact information and address details

Create and submit application
- Select funding opportunity: Historic Resource Conservation Grant (HRCG)
- Create a new project or select existing project
- Enter historic resource information, project details, and cost breakdown
- Upload supporting documents
- Review and submit application

Wait for funding decision
- Applicants are generally notified of funding decision in May or June
- An interim payment of 50% is released upon project initiation
- Final payment requires submitting invoices/receipts and reporting on in-kind donations
Processing and Agreement
- Applications reviewed May to June for funding decisions
- Evaluated based on project scope, conservation priorities, applicant capacity and funding history
- Approved applicants receive funding agreement with terms and conditions
- Interim payment of 50% released upon project initiation
- Final payment upon submission of invoices, receipts and project report
- Work inspected by Heritage Conservation Adviser for compliance

- Work must comply with the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada.
- Grant recipients must publicly acknowledge Alberta government's financial support.
- Projects must be completed and all reporting done by February 28 of the year following approval.
