Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Hospitality businesses
  • Accommodations providers
  • Wilderness tourism operators
  • Arts & Culture organizations
  • Sports & Events companies
  • Travel services businesses
  • Transportation companies within the tourism sector

Who is not eligible

  • Permanent employees, offices or groups of municipal, territorial, federal or First Nations governments.
  • Businesses or individuals applying for training where the training provider is their own company (trainee and trainer are the same entity).
  • Organizations that have already received funding for the same training event from the Yukon Tourism Training Fund.

Eligible expenses

  • Registration or tuition fees for eligible courses or training programs.
  • Travel expenses (airfare, bus fare, taxis/shuttles) if training is held outside of the applicant's community and justified, within specified limits.
  • Accommodation costs during training days plus one additional night for training outside the applicant's community (maximum $200 CAD/night).
  • Mileage reimbursement if the course is held outside the applicant's community (minimum 30km one way, up to specified limits).
  • Equipment rental, where necessity is demonstrated.
  • Per diem for training days when the course is held 100km or more from the applicant’s community ($75 CAD/day, within set limits).
  • Materials required for training, such as printing, textbooks, and supplementary materials (within set financial limits).
  • Disability-related support services (e.g., attendant care, note-takers, sign language interpreters).

  • Preference for projects that benefit more than one person, company, or organization and demonstrate results in business growth.

How to apply

Confirm eligibility and guidelines

  • Review the eligibility requirements and funding guidelines for the Yukon Tourism Training Fund (YTTF)
  • Verify you are eligible to apply as an individual, including work eligibility in Canada and intention to pursue tourism training

Prepare required documentation

  • Obtain proof of admission to the training program, such as a course receipt or registration document
  • Gather proof of current address, e.g., utility bill or bank statement
  • Prepare a detailed budget outlining expenses and your 25% contribution
  • Obtain a letter of support from a tourism employer or proof of business ownership

Submit complete application

  • Complete the YTTF application form with accurate and typed responses
  • Ensure all supporting documents are attached
  • Submit the application before the start date of your training and by the intake deadline

Await committee decision

  • Wait for the YTTF Committee to review your application during the next intake assessment
  • Be aware that decisions are communicated no earlier than three weeks after the intake deadline

Sign and return contract

  • If approved, review and sign the funding contract sent by YTTF
  • Return the signed contract within 30 days to secure your funding

Complete training and collect proof

  • Participate in the approved training program and cover all initial costs
  • Keep all receipts and obtain proof of completion for reimbursement

Submit receipts and proof for reimbursement

  • Submit proof of completion and all original receipts to YTTF within 30 days of completing training or notification of funding
  • Await final reimbursement based on submitted documentation and project costs

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by the YTTF Committee.
  • Only complete applications are assessed; incomplete ones are rejected.
  • Applicants are notified no earlier than three weeks after the intake deadline.
  • Successful applicants must sign and return a contract within 30 days.
  • Reimbursement is issued after proof of completion and receipts are submitted.

Additional information

  • Applications must be submitted before the training start date; late applications are not admissible.
  • A signed contract and proof of completion are required for reimbursement after approval.
  • Applications for training without a set start date may be submitted within 7 days of registration.
  • Incomplete applications will be rejected and not assessed by the Committee.
