Overview of the Yukon — Subsidy to hire a summer student program
The Yukon Summer Career Placement subsidy provides up to $8.25 per hour for a maximum of 600 hours to support organizations in hiring Yukon students and youth for summer employment. The program aims to facilitate job opportunities for secondary and post-secondary students, as well as qualified youth, in roles ranging from 6 to 16 weeks between May and September.
Financing terms and conditions
- Subsidy of $8.25 per hour, up to a maximum of 600 hours per student or youth, between May 1 and September 1.
Eligible projects & activities
- Hiring a Yukon youth or student for summer employment positions within your organization.
Examples of admissible projects:

Eligibility criteria of the Yukon — Subsidy to hire a summer student program
- The applicant must be a private business, municipality, First Nation, or non-profit organization.
- The applicant must have operated in Yukon for at least one year prior to applying.

Eligible expenses
- Wages for hiring a student or youth, up to $8.25 per hour for a maximum of 600 hours between May 1 and September 1.
Eligible geographic areas
- Businesses, municipalities, First Nations, and non-profit organizations that have operated for at least one year in Yukon.
How to apply to the Yukon — Subsidy to hire a summer student program
- Step 1: Review Program Requirements
- Examine the conditions and subsidy levels for both the Summer Career Placement and STEP programs.
- Ensure your organization selects the correct program before applying.
- Step 2: Complete the Application Form
- Fill out the Summer Career Placement application form.
- Step 3: Submit the Application
- Send your completed application form by one of the following methods:
- In person: 1000 Lewes Boulevard, Whitehorse, Yukon (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm)

- Send your completed application form by one of the following methods:
- Step 4: Recruit and Select Staff
- If approved, recruit and select eligible students or youth for your organization’s summer positions.
- Advertise positions using local newspapers, Service Canada’s Job Bank, Employment Central, or the Skookum Jim Youth Employment Centre, as appropriate.

- Employers are responsible for advertising positions, recruiting, and selecting students or youth for the positions.
- Applicants must ensure the candidate is a new employee and not a member of the employer's immediate family.
- Job postings are typically advertised through local newspapers, Service Canada’s Job Bank, Employment Central, or the Skookum Jim Youth Employment Centre.
