Overview
The Staffing UP program supports Yukon employers in recruiting, hiring, and retaining staff by providing financial aid of up to 60% of base salary for permanent positions and up to 90% of training costs for underrepresented groups. Eligible activities include on-the-job training, skills assessments, and human resources development initiatives.
Financing terms and conditions
- Up to 60% of base salary covered for up to one year when hiring an inexperienced worker for an existing permanent position.
- All employer expenses are eligible for up to 8 weeks during workplace skills and interest assessments, and up to 24 weeks for workplace-based training.
- Training funding rates: 60% for unpaid trainees, 70% for paid trainees, 80% for unemployed candidates, and 90% for unemployed candidates from underrepresented groups.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be an employer based in Yukon employing at least one person other than themselves.
- The applicant must not be a federal, provincial, or territorial government body or a Crown corporation.
- Priority is given to employers with fewer than 20 employees.
- Priority is given to projects that support hiring or training individuals from underrepresented groups in the workforce.
- The project must demonstrate a need for assistance in finding, hiring, or retaining staff.

- Employers in Yukon who have at least one employee (excluding themselves)
- First Nation governments in Yukon
Who is not eligible
- Federal, provincial or territorial government organizations.
- Crown corporations.
Eligible expenses
- Salary costs, either fully or partially covered, depending on the type of financial assistance selected.
- Mandatory employment-related expenses (e.g., Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan contributions) in specified cases related to workplace evaluation or training.
- Employer share of employee benefits and training costs, including travel expenses for training purposes.
- Operating and overhead costs such as trainer fees, materials, supplies, and disability support.
- Administrative expenses related to the use of current resources for project implementation.
- Training expenses for current or future staff, including costs of third-party training to enhance skills, prepare for promotion, or help new hires acquire necessary competencies.

- Support for hiring individuals from underrepresented groups (e.g., Yukon First Nations, youth under 30, persons with disabilities, individuals over 50, women in trades or technology, newcomers to Canada).
