The following are the eligibility criteria for companies applying for this grant:
  • The company must own the rights to exploit the sound recording in Canada.
  • The company cannot have more than one project accepted and in progress with Musicaction at the same time.
  • The company must not be in default of payment.
  • The company must provide all required documents to create or update a master file, including financial statements that meet current standards.
  • If the company is applying for non-production funded sound recordings and is subject to the evaluation grid, it must provide proof of distribution agreements and demonstrate a history of achievement in initial commercialization activities.
  • The company must not submit the same application to both FACTOR and Musicaction.

  • The project must not contain any elements of violence, sexual exploitation, obscenity, indecency, pornography, hatefulness, defamation, or any illegal nature as defined by the Criminal Code.
  • The recording should have a minimum of six tracks or 20 minutes of musical content.
  • For requests for increased funding, the recording must be marketed no later than 18 months before the request.
  • For projects not funded at production and submitted for evaluation, the recording must be commercialized within 12 months of the application, or evidence must show initial commercialization efforts like radio plays or shows.
  • The applicant must not be in default of payment.
  • If the applicant is a business entity, it must provide necessary documentation, including financial statements complying with current standards for financial statements.
  • The same application cannot be submitted to both FACTOR and Musicaction.
  • Reissues and compilations are not allowed, although re-recordings are permitted.
  • A live recording is eligible if marketed 18 months following the previous recording’s release and if the marketing file is closed.

  • Ensure the form is fully completed and accurately named (Applicant - Artist - CN).
  • Step 2: Submit Application Electronically
  • Submit the completed application form electronically to the specified email: inscription@musicaction.ca.
  • Step 3: Provide Supporting Documents
  • Submit relevant supporting documents such as management contracts, press, radio, and web promotion service contracts or work schedules, estimates and synopsis of planned music videos if applicable.
  • Step 4: Ensure Eligibility
  • Ensure the application and project fulfill all eligibility criteria set by the program including Canadian citizenship, distribution agreements, and project content requirements.
  • Step 5: Verify Financial Capability
  • Show financial capability to complete the project. Be ready to provide access to financial books if required.
  • Step 6: Await Evaluation and Approval
  • Projects funded at production are subject to direct approval, while others are evaluated based on professional environment, marketing plan quality, and project performance.
  • Step 7: Address Financing and Obligations
  • Adhere to the conditions regarding financing, including supplying digital copies, logos, and credits as required by the funding conditions upon project approval.
  • Step 8: Submit Completion Report
  • Submit the completion form within two months after the end of the commercial activities, with attached required supporting documents and proofs of expense as outlined in the parachèvement section.
