Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Legally constituted for-profit or non-profit venues.
  • Venues whose main activity is the dissemination of professional music or variety shows.
  • Category 1 venues: single-purpose cultural venues open to the public only when shows are scheduled.
  • Category 2 venues: multi-purpose cultural venues that remain open to the public outside show programming periods.
  • Venues with their head office and main establishment in Quebec.

Who is not eligible

  • Venues receiving operating support from the ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec or the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) for dissemination activities.
  • Venues whose programming is based only on renting the hall and dissemination services to producers or promoters.
  • Venues with a total capacity of more than 500 seats.
  • Sole proprietorships.
  • Show promoters and external show programmers.

Eligible expenses

  • Guaranteed fees paid to artists and producers, excluding the share of ticketing and other admission revenues paid to producers.
  • Salaries, payroll costs, and professional fees related to programming activities, promotion activities, and technicians and craftspeople working at the venue.
  • Promotion expenses, including advertising and marketing purchases.
  • Training expenses, limited to 20% of eligible expenses.
  • Any other relevant and necessary expense for carrying out dissemination activities.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Dance, circus, theatre, or any other cultural shows outside SODEC's mandate.
  • Hall rental and expenses related to hall rental.
  • Captation of shows for video or audio rebroadcast, and related capture expenses.
  • Expenses for any activity not directly related to the programming, dissemination, and promotion of music and variety shows.
  • Expenses related to the purchase or rental of dissemination equipment, fixed venue costs, and infrastructure fit-out expenses.

Selection criteria

  • Relevance of the last completed year's programming to the program objectives.
  • Share of purchased music and variety shows, share of programmed emerging or developing Québec artists, and their placement in single-bill, double-bill, or opening-act formats.
  • Programming directions for the following year.
  • Guaranteed fees paid, the precision and consistency of eligible expenses and dissemination revenues, the realism of projected expenses for the following year, and the applicant's financial health.
  • Quality of venue equipment and infrastructure, and human resources dedicated to programming, dissemination, and promotion.

How to apply

  • Access the secure SOD@ccès portal.
  • Create a user profile if you are a new user, or enter your access codes.
  • Select program 30-44-00 for your application.
  • Complete the application form and upload all required documents in accepted digital formats.
  • Submit the application through SOD@ccès by the scheduled filing dates.

Processing and Agreement

  • Only complete applications that meet all general eligibility conditions are evaluated.
  • Applications are assessed comparatively by SODEC professionals, and SODEC may seek external opinions if needed.
  • Any financial assistance is conditional on signing a financial assistance agreement and complying with its terms, the program terms, and any previous award conditions, if applicable.
  • SODEC may require any information, document, or supporting piece needed to process, follow up, verify, or validate a file.
  • For the second payment, the applicant must submit and obtain acceptance of the final detailed programming and final cost report.
