Overview
The Travel component of the Arts Abroad grant program supports Canadian artists, arts professionals, groups, and organizations for international travel related to significant events, artistic presentations, collaborations, network development, and new market opportunities. Eligible activities include traveling by invitation to events outside Canada that are at least 500 kilometers away from the applicant's departure point. The grants aim to enhance international presence and can cover single or multiple destinations within one trip.

Eligible expenses
- Travel expenses for trips outside of Canada by invitation, at least 500 kilometers from the place of departure, related to international presentation, exhibition, collaboration, networking, or new market opportunities.

Selection criteria
The evaluation and selection of projects for the Arts Abroad Travel component are based on weighted criteria, ensuring projects align with the grant's objectives and demonstrate potential for international impact.
- Impact: 40% (minimum score of 25 out of 40)
- The potential of the project to develop and enhance your international profile and that of Canadian arts practice.
- Build international connections and exchange knowledge.
- Generate future opportunities.
- Relevance: 40% (minimum score of 25 out of 40)
- The rationale for the project, including timeliness and suitability.
- The suitability of the event or involvement of the partners or host organizations.
- Feasibility: 20% (minimum score of 10 out of 20)
- The capacity and experience you and your partners or host organizations have to undertake the project.
- A reasonable budget.
How to apply
- Step 1: Create an Account and Validate Profile
- Register for an account on the official application portal.
- Submit one or several profiles for validation.
- Start this process at least 30 days before you intend to apply.
- Step 2: Review Guidelines and Prepare Application
- Consult the provided grant guidelines and application forms.
- Collect any necessary supporting documents relevant to your application.
- Step 3: Complete the Online Application
- Access the application portal with your validated profile.
- Fill out the application form according to the grant’s requirements.
- Upload all required supporting documents.
- Step 4: Submit the Application
- Ensure all information is accurate and complete.
- Submit your completed application through the online portal before the program deadline.
Additional information
- Applicants must create and submit a validated profile in the portal at least 30 days before applying.
- Application assistance is available for artists who self-identify as Deaf, hard of hearing, having a disability, living with a mental illness, or as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis facing barriers.
- Deadlines and notification of results should be checked on the corresponding web page as they may vary.
- Planned changes to the portal will be implemented later in 2025; applicants should monitor the portal for updates.
