Who is eligible?
- Technology developers.
- Product and service providers.
- Equipment installers and engineering firms.
- Commercial energy auditors.
- Facility owners and operators.
Who is not eligible
- Public authorities and publicly owned entities.
- Businesses receiving more than 50% of annual revenue from a public authority.
- Projects already funded by ESB, ERA, TIER, the repealed Climate Leadership Act, or Pan-Canadian Framework programs.
- Grid-connected solar PV projects under the Alberta Microgeneration Regulation.
- Routine maintenance, standard business practice, or legally required projects.
Eligible expenses
- Energy modelling and engineering design.
- Equipment purchase, procurement, construction, and installation labour.
- Interconnection costs, permits, inspections, and commissioning.
- Measurement and verification costs required by the project.
- Disposal or decommissioning of replaced equipment.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Costs not directly required to design, purchase, or install the technology system.
- Repairs, refurbishing, facility preparation, aesthetic improvements, and equipment upkeep.
- GST, provincial sales taxes, warranties, insurance, overhead, administrative, and internal costs.
- Costs to complete ETP documents.
- Costs incurred before December 1, 2021, or funded by another third party.
Eligible geographic areas

Processing and Agreement
- EOIs are reviewed by internal and third-party experts for eligibility and fit with the program.
- If the EOI is approved, ERA requests a Full Project Proposal.
- FPPs are reviewed and scored by a committee of internal and third-party experts.
- Successful applicants receive a Contribution Agreement or a decision letter.
- After completion, ERA reviews project documentation and may conduct a virtual or in-person site visit before payment is issued.
