The Energy Efficiency Program—Efficient Construction and Renovation by Énergir offers financial incentives up to $325,000 to clients to support new energy-efficient building constructions, encouraging cost reduction and increased resale value through reduced natural gas consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Eligible activities include the construction of new buildings, major renovations affecting architecture and essential systems, and projects involving natural gas heating for spaces or water heating.

grant_single_labels|projects

The grant program is designed to encourage energy-efficient building construction and renovations that lead to reduced operational costs and increased resale value. Eligible projects focus on new builds, major renovations, and system upgrades that leverage natural gas for heating.
  • Construction of new energy-efficient buildings that adhere to current energy efficiency laws and regulations in Quebec.
  • Major renovations that encompass architectural and mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting systems.
  • Projects that include expansions of existing buildings while integrating energy efficiency measures.
  • Energy-saving measures for systems heated with natural gas, specifically excluding industrial process measures.
  • Simulations and integrated designs that exceed national energy performance standards by at least 5%.
  • Utilization of mechanical compression systems for refrigeration which can recover excess thermal energy.

grant_single_labels|admissibility

Eligibility for this grant is determined by specific requirements related to the client and project profile.
  • The applicant must be an existing or prospective client of Énergir.
  • Eligible sectors for financial assistance include commercial, multi-unit residential buildings with four or more units, institutional, and industrial sectors.
  • The project must involve the construction of a new building, an extension of an existing building, or a major renovation encompassing architecture, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting systems.
  • The building must be heated with natural gas, and only savings from natural gas heating are considered in the financial assistance calculation.
  • Energy calculations must be conducted by a registered firm with engineers specialized in energy efficiency.
  • The new construction project must be modeled using an approved energy simulation tool and verified by an engineer who is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
  • The financial assistance application must be submitted to Énergir before the execution of the new construction project.
  • Energy savings from substituting natural gas with another form of energy are excluded from eligibility.
  • Recovery of thermal energy from sources other than natural gas is accepted under certain conditions, such as being marginally free and stemming from unvalued thermal emissions.
  • Energy savings recognized in another Énergir program must be deducted from the total savings in this program.
  • The application must include all required documentation as specified by Énergir.
  • The project will be subject to verification by an independent third party selected by Énergir.
