Overview
The CALQ — Promotion and Awareness-Raising grant offers up to $10,000 to support organizations in the dissemination and promotion of literature and storytelling in Quebec. Eligible activities include conferences, round tables, public readings, literary events, workshops, and animation or residency activities aimed at increasing public awareness and engagement.
Financing terms and conditions
- Maximum annual grant of $10,000 per project under this component.
- The grant may cover up to 75% of the total eligible project costs.
- If the actual project budget exceeds the stated maximum, the Council may request reimbursement of the surplus funding.
- Funding is provided on a non-recurring basis and is not automatically renewed for subsequent years or projects.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be a legally constituted non-profit organization with its head office in Quebec.
- The organization must operate primarily within the literature and storytelling disciplines, including literature, storytelling performances, or spoken literary creation.
- The majority of administrators must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents who usually live in Quebec.
- The project must involve professional writers, storytellers, or recognized specialists in the discipline.
- The organization must carry out most of its activities in Quebec.
Who is eligible?
- Non-profit organizations legally incorporated and headquartered in Quebec, operating primarily in the fields of literature and storytelling
- Organizations involved in the creation, production, and dissemination of works by professional writers and storytellers
- Associations and regional organizations of authors that present activities featuring professional writers, storytellers, or recognized specialists in the discipline
- Organizations that support literary production, including providing resources, space, equipment, artist residencies, and professional development
Who is not eligible
- Organizations whose programming consists mainly of non-professional activities.
- Book fairs (salons du livre), school and public libraries, organizations managing libraries, bookstores, and publishing houses.
- Events, projects, or tours already supported under another program of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec or by the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC).
- Organizations receiving specific program funding from the Conseil for the period covered by the project.

- Transportation and accommodation related to the project, if applicable

Selection criteria
- Artistic quality of the project (60%): including the quality and variety of activities, the applicant's capacity to carry out the project, and the relevance of the venues.
- Impact of the project (20%): including the project's impact on the enrichment of literary and artistic life, the visibility of professional writers and storytellers and their works, and the scope and diversity of audiences reached.
- Project management (20%): including the importance of self-financing and diversity of revenue sources, partnerships with other organizations, realistic budget forecasts, efforts for fair remuneration to artists and collaborators, and efforts towards eco-responsibility.
- Exceptionally, if justified and noted on the form, the weighting may be adjusted to 50% for artistic quality, 30% for impact, and 20% for management, giving more importance to the project's impact.

Prepare necessary documents
- Prepare all required documentation and information
- Gather supporting documents, including budgets and project details

Complete application form
- Complete the application form online via "Mon dossier CALQ"
- Choose the appropriate form for your organization and project type
- If unable to use the online portal, follow the instructions to submit via WeTransfer

Submit complete application
- Upload all required supporting documents as part of your application
- Verify that no solicited annex or document is missing
- Ensure the application is submitted at least three months before project start date

Receive acknowledgment of receipt
- Receive a confirmation of receipt by email from the Conseil
- Track the progress of your application in "Mon dossier CALQ" if registered
- No additional documents will be accepted after submission

Application evaluation and decision
- The Conseil evaluates the application for eligibility, artistic quality, impact, and project management
- Admissible requests undergo committee and financial review
- The final decision is made by the Conseil’s board of directors
- Applicants are informed of the result within approximately four months

Sign agreement and comply
- If approved, receive a letter outlining funding details and conditions
- Sign the agreement and comply with terms and legal requirements
- If refused or inadmissible, receive written notification with reasons
8
Submit project completion report
- Provide a report of use, including activities and financial details, within three months after project end
- Ensure the report includes all real data and required documentation
- The Conseil may request additional financial records or information as needed
Additional information
- Applications must be submitted at least three months before the project start date.
- The official submission date is determined by the date of online transmission or WeTransfer submission.
- An applicant cannot have more than eight projects being analyzed, supported, underway, or recently completed (within three months) without submitted and approved final reports.
- All supporting documents must be included at the time of application; additional documents submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
