- A signed copy of the letter of agreement between you and the playwright, indicating the playwright’s approval of the translator, and a signed copy of the letter of agreement between you and the translator for dramatic work
- An arts and cultural CV or resume for each group member
- An electronic copy of the original book, script or video script

- Literary organizations, except Indigenous Publishers, that presently receive a core grant from Supporting Artistic Practice: Literary Publishers
Eligible expenses
- Translation and surtitling expenses, based on the standard translation rates for your region or context, up to $25,000 per title
- Reading fees for prospective titles, up to $1,500 per year
- Bilingual editing, up to $2,500 per year
- Promotional expenses for previously published works supported by a Canada Council for the Arts translation grant, up to $2,000 per title to a maximum of 8 titles
- Video documentation expenses for translated works supported by this grant, up to $2,500 per title
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Translation and subtitling of film or video
Selection criteria
- Impact (50%): potential to develop and enhance the profile of the work or author, and to generate future opportunities; minimum score required is 35/50
- Artistic (30%): recognized quality of the work to be translated and relevance of the project; minimum score required is 15/30
- Feasibility (20%): applicant and translator experience and capacity to undertake the project; minimum score required is 10/20
- Respectful and ethical cultural and artistic practices (RECAP): proper attention to First Nations, Inuit or Métis cultural protocols and respectful treatment of cultural materials, or no Indigenous content
How to apply
- Step 1
- Create a client portal account.
- Submit one or more profiles for validation at least 30 days before applying.
- Step 2
- Prepare the application form and budget.
- Gather the support materials requested in the form.
- Step 3
- Submit the application in the portal before the deadline.
- Step 4
- Wait for the results notification, usually within 4 months.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are assessed internally after submission.
- Each application is reviewed against weighted criteria and minimum category scores.
- Applicants are notified of results, usually within 4 months of the deadline.
- Funding is only awarded if the RECAP criterion is met.
