Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Registered or incorporated Canadian arts organizations
  • Foreign arts organizations that invite Canadian artists to present artistic works
  • Canadian arts organizations that bring international buyers to Canada
  • Arts supporting groups, supporting organizations, presenting organizations, and business cultural connectors
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis groups or collectives; First Nations, Inuit or Métis not-for-profit organizations; First Nations, Inuit or Métis for-profit organizations; foreign arts festivals, biennales or book fairs; organizations presently receiving core grants

Eligible expenses

  • Conference fees and booth rental costs
  • Market development materials developed specifically for the proposed project
  • Transportation expenses, accommodation and per diem up to 5 days per trip, and additional shipping or baggage costs directly related to your activity
  • Equipment purchases required to carry out the project, with the Canada Council portion not exceeding 15% of your requested grant amount
  • Safety-related expenses, child/dependent care expenses required to complete your activities, and public accessibility costs such as sign language interpretation, translation, accessibility audits, audio description, relaxed performances, personal support workers, captioning, ramp rental, and access coordinators

Selection criteria

  • Relevance (40%): the rationale for the project, including timeliness and suitability, and the suitability of the event or involvement of the partners or host organizations; minimum score required 25/40
  • Impact (40%): the potential to develop and enhance the national or international profiles of the artists and/or arts practice being represented, generate future opportunities, and build connections and exchange knowledge; minimum score required 25/40
  • Feasibility (20%): your and your partners' experience and capacity to undertake the project, and a reasonable budget that demonstrates fair payment to participants and efficient use of resources; minimum score required 10/20
  • Respectful and ethical cultural and artistic practices (RECAP): proper attention is paid to First Nations, Inuit or Métis cultural protocols, and cultural materials are treated in a respectful way, or there is no Indigenous content in the activities

How to apply

  • Register in the portal at least 30 days before you want to apply.
  • Apply in the client portal.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are usually reviewed within 4 months of submission
  • Applications are assessed internally against relevance, impact, and feasibility criteria
  • A grant acceptance form must be completed if the application is successful
  • A final report is due 3 months after project completion
