Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Quebec Wildlife Foundation

Founded by provincial law in 1984 to safeguard critical wetland habitats along the St. Lawrence, the Fondation de la faune du Québec operates as a non-profit para-public agency under the Quebec environment and wildlife ministry. It became a registered charity in 1987 and soon secured a stable funding base through contributions from Quebec’s anglers, hunters and trappers via their annual license fees. This unique structure – a government-mandated foundation with both public and private funding – has ensured reliable resources for its conservation mandate over the long term.

The Foundation’s mission is to promote the conservation and enhancement of Quebec’s wildlife and its habitats. It provides financial and technical assistance to projects in all regions of Quebec, supporting over 700 initiatives on average each year. Operating province-wide, the Foundation works in every type of environment – aquatic, wetland, riverine, and terrestrial – and addresses all categories of wildlife (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals), whether common or threatened. Over nearly four decades, it has cultivated deep expertise in Quebec’s wildlife issues and has financed thousands of field projects, including many aimed at species in precarious situations. Since 1987, the Foundation has empowered more than 2,000 local organizations in their conservation efforts, helping to spark a true province-wide wildlife movement.

As an important implementation partner to government and industry, the Foundation also serves as a financial program delegate, administering a variety of targeted funding programs. These programs drive initiatives in biodiversity conservation, habitat restoration, species recovery, and public engagement through education and outreach.
