Founded by provincial law in 1984 to safeguard critical wetland habitats along the St. Lawrence, the Fondation de la faune du Québec operates as a non-profit para-public agency under the Quebec environment and wildlife ministry. It became a registered charity in 1987 and soon secured a stable funding base through contributions from Quebec’s anglers, hunters and trappers via their annual license fees. Since 1987, the Foundation has empowered more than 2,000 local organizations in their conservation efforts, helping to spark a true province-wide wildlife movement.
