Overview of the MT Lab — Project Financing — Component 2 program

The 2024-25 Project Funding Program offers financial support for innovative projects in the Quebec tourism industry, providing up to 75% of the project costs, with a maximum of $90,000 for individual projects and $200,000 for collective projects. Eligible activities include the integration of new products, services, or processes, particularly those enhancing economic, societal, or environmental value while promoting sustainable tourism practices.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Financial support covers up to 75% of total project costs.
  • The maximum funding is $90,000 for an individual project and $200,000 for a collective project involving multiple partners from the tourism industry.
  • All project-related expenses eligible for funding must be incurred within 9 months following the official project selection announcement.
  • The remaining 25% of project costs must be covered by the applicant through own funds or external partners.

Eligible projects & activities

  • Creation and implementation of innovative digital management or sales platforms tailored to the tourism sector.
  • Development and integration of augmented reality solutions for visitor signage and experiences.
  • Establishment of smart systems to improve operational efficiency, such as digital recommendations or real-time geolocation tools.
  • Design and deployment of eco-friendly or technologically advanced services for tourism, including automation or digitalization in hospitality and recreation.
  • Collaborative projects introducing new technology or business models to improve productivity, sustainability, or customer experience in the tourism industry.

Eligibility criteria of the MT Lab — Project Financing — Component 2 program

Eligibility for this grant is determined by specific criteria related to the applicant’s operations and project goals.
  • The applicant must be a company or organization working in the Quebec tourism industry or an innovative Quebec tourism business.
  • The applicant must be the beneficiary of the submitted project.
  • The applicant must have been in operation for more than one year.
  • The applicant must have a Quebec Business Number (NEQ).
  • The applicant must have a website available in French.
  • The same company cannot be funded again by a program from the MT Lab financially supported by the Ministry of Tourism for a similar project.
  • The project's application guidelines, including those related to required documents, must be complied with.
  • Applicants in conflict or with potential conflicts of interest linked to MT Lab employees or board members are excluded from applying.
  • State corporations, ministries, and government organizations of Quebec or Canada are excluded as applicants.

  • Regional and sectoral tourism associations (ATR and ATS) in Quebec

  • Crown corporations (sociétés d'État).
  • Provincial and federal government ministries.
  • Organizations governed by the Government of Quebec or Canada.
  • Companies with direct ties (conflict of interest) to MT Lab employees or its board members.

Eligible expenses

  • Up to 75% of total project costs directly related to the realization of an innovative tourism project, including eligible services and products delivered within 9 months of project approval.

  • Alignment with priority themes, such as improving productivity or competitiveness, addressing labour shortages, reducing environmental impact, supporting digital transformation, and promoting responsible and sustainable tourism.
  • Level of innovation in processes, products, services, or business models introduced by the project.
  • Potential benefits and impact for the sector or region, including how the project may be replicated or adapted by other organizations.
  • Assessment of the risk involved for the applicant organization in implementing the project.
  • Potential increase in productivity for the applicant company or organization.

Preparation of the required documents
  • Complete the applicant's form.
  • Prepare the presentation document with information about the company, the issue, and the project.
  • Obtain a letter of commitment from management or the board of directors to ensure budget availability.
  • Draft a declaration of non-conflict of interest if applicable.

  • Submit all required documents via the appropriate application form.
  • Ensure that all documents are complete and meet the stated requirements.

Additional information

  • Applicants can submit more than one project but can only be selected once per call for proposals.
  • Individual and collective projects are allowed, with collective applications requiring commitment letters from all stakeholders.
  • No personalized feedback regarding application quality will be given to candidates.
  • Laureates must sign an agreement with MT Lab prior to the disbursement of financial aid.
