Eligibility
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person enrolled full-time at an approved Alberta post-secondary institution.
- Be in the last year of a Bachelor of Education program, or in the second year of a Bachelor of Education After Degree.
- Be completing a program with a specialization in demand within northern Alberta.
- Be willing to sign an agreement declaring intent to live and work in northern Alberta for the full return-of-service period.
- Not be a current or past recipient of the Northern Student Teacher Bursary.

- Students enrolled full-time in eligible Bachelor of Education programs at approved Alberta post-secondary institutions

- Current or past recipients of the Northern Student Teacher Bursary
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Any costs incurred if the recipient does not complete the full return-of-service commitment (no award funding is paid in this case).

- Acceptable academic record (mentioned as a factor that increases the chances of success)
How to apply
- Step 1: Complete application
- Fill out the online application form.
- Select the intended return-of-service length (2 or 3 years).
- Step 2: Send supporting documents
- Email supporting documentation (including transcript or proof/verification of enrolment) to the program email address.
Processing and Agreement
- Applicants are advised of their status by the end of March 2026.
- Selected recipients receive the return-of-service agreement by email with directions to continue the process.
- Program administrators may follow up to monitor completion of the return-of-service commitment.
Additional information
- Applications open December 8, 2025 and close January 19, 2026 at 9:00 am; late applications are not accepted.
- Applicants can improve their chances with an acceptable academic record.
- Recipients must inform Alberta Education and Childcare once employment is secured at an eligible school jurisdiction.
- Recipients are responsible for maintaining their TWINS account and keeping contact information up to date.
