Overview

The Women in STEM Scholarship provides up to $2,500 per recipient to support women in Alberta pursuing post-secondary studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields where women are underrepresented. The program aims to advance gender equality and empowers eligible women to further their education in STEM disciplines.

Financing terms and conditions

A total of $125,000 is available for the scholarship program.
Each successful applicant will receive $2,500 in funding for their studies.
Fifty (50) women will be awarded funding for the 2025-26 academic year.

Activities funded

Post-secondary studies in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) at an approved Alberta institution.
Academic programs that contribute to advancing gender equality in STEM fields.

Eligibility

The applicant must identify as a woman.
The applicant must be studying in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) program as defined by Statistics Canada.
The applicant must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person.
The applicant must be a resident of Alberta under specific residency requirements.
The applicant must be registered (full or part-time) at an approved post-secondary institution located in Alberta, including recognized apprenticeship programs.

Additional information

Intake for the 2025-26 academic year is open from September 15 to October 31, 2025.
Previous recipients may reapply; however, priority is given to those who have not previously received the scholarship.
Applicants may apply to multiple scholarships (Women in STEM, Persons Case, Women in Technical and Applied Arts), but can only receive one in the same calendar year.
