Overview of the Musicaction — National collective promotion program

The grant program aims to support new, innovative collective promotional activities that enhance the visibility, accessibility, or positioning of Canadian Francophone music, with a maximum funding of $400,000 available, covering up to 75% of eligible costs. Eligible activities include those that promote artists or entrepreneurs from Indigenous or minority communities in line with diversity and inclusion policies.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Maximum financial assistance of up to $400,000 per project where justified by scope and investment required.
  • Funding may cover up to 75% of eligible or actual incurred costs, whichever is lower.
  • Total government funding, including Musicaction, cannot exceed 100% of total project costs.
  • Generally, an initial advance of at least 75% of the approved amount is disbursed upon contract signature.

Eligible projects & activities

  • Implementation of large-scale, collective promotional initiatives enhancing the development, visibility, accessibility, or positioning of Canadian francophone music in national and digital markets.
  • New, one-time, and innovative promotional campaigns taking francophone Canadian music content to a new level.
  • Promotional projects specifically highlighting artists or entrepreneurs from Indigenous or minority communities, particularly those aligned with public diversity and inclusion policies.
  • Recurring national, provincial, or territorial collective promotional events outside Quebec, such as galas or awards ceremonies, led by associations within the music industry.

Eligibility criteria of the Musicaction — National collective promotion program

  • The applicant must be a Canadian individual or organization.
  • The organization or event must be located in Quebec or be part of the Canadian Francophonie.
  • Applicants whose primary activity is related to sound recording may be eligible if justified by the project.
  • The project must be a new, one-time, and innovative collective promotional initiative focused on Canadian Francophone music.
  • The project must target multiple artists affiliated with different companies (labels, management, publishing, or live production) supported by the Canada Music Fund.

Who is eligible?

  • Events or organizations based in Quebec
  • Events or organizations from Francophone communities in Canada
  • Other enterprises whose main activity is related to sound recording, if the project justifies it

Who is not eligible

  • Companies or organizations not based in Quebec or the Canadian Francophonie.
  • Enterprises whose main activity is not related to sound recording, unless justified by the project.
  • Applicants who are in default of payment.
  • Applicants who cannot provide required financial documentation or do not comply with financial reporting standards.

Eligible expenses

  • Internal labour costs directly assigned to the project (up to 25% of admissible project costs, subject to position description if required by Musicaction).

  • Organizations or events from the Canadian Francophonie

  • Realism and accuracy of the proposed budget.
  • Applicant's funding history with Musicaction.

How to apply to the Musicaction — National collective promotion program

Prepare for your application
  • Review eligibility requirements for applicants and projects
  • Ensure your project aligns with program priorities and guidelines
  • Gather necessary project and applicant documentation

Complete and submit the application
  • Complete the Excel application form
  • Name the file as required (Applicant – Project – PCN)
  • Attach signed Declarations, and fill Project, Budget-Balance, and Artists tabs
  • Provide partnership agreement if applicable
  • Submit required documents via email to inscription@musicaction.ca

Await application evaluation
  • Wait for evaluation of your application based on program criteria
  • The quality of the application and merit of the project determine approval

Accept approval and fulfill requirements
  • Receive project approval notice and funding contract
  • Revise budget as required and meet contractual obligations
  • Follow branding and recognition requirements in promotional materials

Implement your project
  • Implement the approved project within 12 months
  • Maintain records of all eligible expenses and supporting documents
  • Respond to any request for accounting access or discussions with Musicaction

Submit project completion file
  • Submit project completion file (parachèvement) within 3 months after project end
  • Include signed Declarations, completed forms, supporting materials, and proof of expenditures
  • Provide copies of promotional materials and impact statistics as required
  • Retain original invoices and payment proof for five years

Additional information

  • Applicants must not be in default of payment at the time of application.
  • All required documentation, including up-to-date financial statements, must be provided to establish or update the master file.
  • The originals of invoices and payment proofs must be retained for five years following project completion and can be requested at any time.
  • Accepted payment proof includes cleared cheques, bank statements, and credit card statements.
