Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Nova Scotia farms registered under the Farm Registration Act
  • Individuals, partnerships, corporations, and co-operatives
  • Mi’kmaq Nova Scotians and Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia
  • Other under-represented communities farming in Nova Scotia

Who is not eligible

  • Projects using used equipment
  • Projects that have already started work or purchased equipment
  • Projects with total costs of $60,000 or more, excluding HST

Eligible expenses

  • Purchase and installation of new energy-efficient equipment
  • On-farm energy switching and storage systems
  • Upgrades to farm equipment used for biomass collection, processing, biogas, or biofuel generation
  • Custom energy efficiency measures that reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Used equipment
  • Projects that have already started implementation
  • Projects with total costs of $60,000 or more, excluding HST
  • Projects stacked with other provincial government funding

Selection criteria

  • Projects are evaluated based on greenhouse gas reductions per funding dollar requested.
  • Additional consideration is given to operational savings, job creation, and community impact.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare application
    • Review the program guidelines, application form, and terms and conditions.
    • Gather the required supporting documents.
  • Step 2: Submit by email
    • Send the completed application and documents to agriculture@efficiencyns.ca.
  • Step 3: Follow up with an Energy Manager
    • An Energy Manager will contact you about the next steps.
    • If approved, you will receive a claim form.
  • Step 4: Submit the claim
    • After project completion, submit the claim form with supporting documents.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed after submission, and an Energy Manager contacts successful applicants with next steps.
  • If approved, a claim form is provided for the completed project.
  • Projects may be selected for quality assurance review within 12 months after completion.
  • Site visits may be required to verify installation.
