Overview
Eligibility criteria
The Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change Program supports the Agricultural sector in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change by helping primary producers accelerate the adoption of priority beneficial management practices. To be eligible for this grant, you must be a farm or Mi'kmaq conducting farming activities in a Mi'kmaw community. Specific eligibility criteria include:
- Be currently and properly registered in the correct income category under the Farm Registration Act
- Have generated an annual eligible gross commodity income of at least $30,000
- Be at least 19 years old and actively farming in the program year
- Have a Premise ID, if you're a livestock producer
Eligible expenses
Eligible expenses for this grant include:
- Costs associated with implementing priority beneficial management practices
- Eligible costs for approved project activities
- Other expenses outlined in the Program Guidelines
Eligible projects & activities
There are eligible projects and activities for the Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change Program grant. The program supports primary producers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change impacts through the adoption of priority beneficial management practices. Eligible activities include:
- Implementing on-farm energy efficiency measures
- Adopting sustainable soil management practices
- Participating in climate change adaptation workshops
- Developing a farm-specific climate change adaptation plan
Evaluation & selection criteria
There are evaluation and selection criteria for this grant. The criteria include:
- Proven need for financial assistance to adopt beneficial management practices
- Demonstrated capacity to implement and maintain the proposed beneficial management practices
- Extent to which the proposed beneficial management practices contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change impacts
