Overview of the CBDC Seafood Technology Adoption Program (S-TAP) program
The CBDC Seafood Technology Adoption Program (S-TAP) offers up to $99,900 to eligible seafood companies in New Brunswick to adopt new technologies, enhancing productivity, quality, and sustainability. Eligible activities include technology adoption, adaptation or piloting, and research and development projects in the seafood sector.
Financing terms and conditions
- Reimbursement of up to 75% of eligible project costs upon completion.
- Maximum funding available per project is $99,900.
- Reimbursement rate is dependent on the size of the company.
- Eligible costs vary based on project type but commonly include acquisition and installation costs, training from equipment suppliers, professional and technical services, and incremental research and development costs.
- Projects must be completed by January 1st, 2026 for reimbursement eligibility.

- Adoption of new technologies and/or equipment for use in existing facilities or operations.
- Adaptation or piloting of new technologies or equipment new to the Seafood Sector in New Brunswick.
- Research and Development of new technologies, processes, and/or equipment.
Eligibility criteria of the CBDC Seafood Technology Adoption Program (S-TAP) program
- The applicant must be a commercial enterprise, including Indigenous Organizations, operating in the province of New Brunswick.
- The applicant's primary commercial activity must be in the Seafood Sector.
- The Seafood Sector activities can include primary and/or secondary processing of seafood products sustainably harvested in Atlantic Canada.
- Aquaculture activities, whether land-based or marine, are considered eligible.
- Harvesting activities must be approved for commercial fishery by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).
- Equipment manufacturers or service providers in New Brunswick may qualify for Research and Development projects.
Who is eligible?
- Commercial enterprises with primary activities in the Seafood Sector based in New Brunswick
- Indigenous Organizations engaged in the Seafood Sector in New Brunswick
- Primary and/or secondary processors of seafood products sustainably harvested in Atlantic Canada
- Aquaculture businesses, both land-based and marine, located in New Brunswick
- Entities involved in the harvesting of fish or crustaceans approved for commercial fishery by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) in New Brunswick
- Equipment manufacturers or service providers situated in New Brunswick that qualify for Research and Development
Eligible expenses
- Acquisition and installation related costs for new production technology.
- Training provided by the equipment manufacturer or supplier.
- Professional, technical, or other contracted services required to adapt technology to specific operational needs.
- Incremental capital and operational costs related to the development of new equipment, processes, or technologies, including salaries and wages for prototypes.
- Acquisition of innovative fishing gear.
- Acquisition of fishing gear for new or emerging fisheries.
- Acquisition and installation of innovative on-vessel catch holding or handling equipment.
- Acquisition of innovative on-land catch holding and handling equipment.
- Acquisition and installation of innovative on-vessel productivity-enhancing equipment or technology.
- Acquisition and installation of on-vessel sustainability-enhancing equipment such as rope-safe stabilizers, rope-safe propulsion, or emission reduction systems.
