Overview
The Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG) supports employers with funding of up to $10,000 per trainee per year to enhance employee productivity through targeted skills training. This government program reimburses costs related to eligible training activities—such as tuition, course fees, and materials—aimed at improving business process management, technical expertise, and digital skills.
Financing terms and conditions
- Government funding covers 50% of eligible training costs for existing employees, up to a maximum of $5,000 per employed trainee per fiscal year.
- If hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, government funding covers up to 75% of eligible training costs, up to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee per fiscal year.
- Employers can receive up to $100,000 in total funding per fiscal year.

- Training employees in business process and operations management to improve and optimize workplace processes and resource management.
- Providing technical skills development programs that enhance efficiency, quality, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Delivering training focused on digital and technological skills, enabling employees to effectively use and manage digital tools and technologies.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be an employer operating in the private sector (incorporated or unincorporated businesses, partnerships), non-profit sector, or a First Nations or Metis Settlement.
- The applicant company must have current or potential employees who require training to fill current or future positions.
- The proposed training must enhance productivity skills relevant to the business needs and be completed within Alberta.
- The employer must select a third-party training provider that is separate and distinct from the employer.

- Private sector employers (incorporated or unincorporated businesses and partnerships)
- Non-profit sector employers
- First Nations employers
- Metis Settlements
Who is not eligible
- Companies that act as their own training providers (the employer applicant cannot be the training provider).
- Training providers applying on behalf of their own employees (trainees cannot be employees of the training provider).
Eligible expenses
- Tuition or course fees charged by the training provider
- Textbooks or software required for the training
- Examination fees related to the training
- Approved travel costs necessary for training
- Other supplies and materials directly relevant to the training course (excluding regular business operation materials)

Additional information
- The CAPG application process is scheduled to open in fall 2025.
- Employers must register their business on the CAPG portal prior to application opening in September to ensure eligibility.
- Online webinar information sessions are available for both employers and training providers, with advance registration required.
- Trainees do not need an Alberta.ca Account to participate in the program.
