  • Priority is given to projects targeting markets where Canada has free trade agreements in place.
  • A cost-sharing arrangement of 50% AAFC and 50% applicant is required, with a possibility of 70:30 sharing for underrepresented groups and market diversification efforts in the Indo-Pacific Region.

  • Step 1:
    • Intake period is open from March 6, 2023, until September 30, 2027.
    • The program aims to increase and diversify exports to markets with free trade agreements in place.
  • Step 2:
    • The maximum AAFC contribution toward a project will normally not exceed $2 million per year.
    • Total funding for multiple projects cannot exceed $2 million per year or $10 million over 5 years.
  • Step 3:
    • Cost-sharing with AAFC contributing up to 50% and the applicant contributing a minimum of 50% in cash.
    • Special 70:30 cost-sharing considered for underrepresented groups and market diversification efforts.
  • Step 4:
    • Funding under the program is not available for costs related to tradeshows covered under the Canada Pavilion Program.

The grant has additional considerations and requirements for Quebec-based organizations, as well as provisions related to intellectual property for materials created or developed with the funding.
  • Quebec-based applicants must address and demonstrate compliance with the Province of Quebec's M-30 legislation during the application assessment process and prior to entering into a contribution agreement.
  • The contribution agreement will have an intellectual property clause confirming that all intellectual property rights in any materials created or developed by or for the applicant will vest in the applicant or a third party, as negotiated by the applicant.
  • AAFC may include a provision in the contribution agreement requiring the applicant to grant a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to the Crown for internal government administration purposes.
