Who We Are

The Foundation for Black Communities (FFBC) is Canada's first-ever philanthropic foundation dedicated to supporting Black communities. Founded to ensure the flourishing and self-determination of Black people across Canada, the FFBC is driven by, and exists for, Black communities. Their mission is to ensure every Black person in Canada can thrive, and all Black communities have the agency to define their own future.

Investing in Black Communities

FFBC invests in Black-led, Black-serving, and Black-focused organizations, providing essential resources so they can make a meaningful impact. Grants are provided to grassroots nonprofits and charities to support initiatives and research addressing the unique needs and priorities of Black communities across Canada.

Programs & Grants

FFBC offers a range of impactful programs and grants:
  • Black Medical Student Bursary: Launched at Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Medicine, this bursary supports aspiring Black medical students.
  • Black Ideas Grant (B.I.G.) 3.0: With a minimum of $8 million in funding, this grant supports Black-led, Black-mandated, and Black-serving organizations across Canada.
  • Ontario Youth Wellness Grant: Supporting projects focused on youth wellness in Ontario’s Black communities, especially through sports and recreation.
  • Vaccine Literacy Campaign: This initiative supported over 15 organizations in Alberta and British Columbia, providing $10,000 grants to promote vaccine understanding and accessibility.
  • Investment Readiness Program: Delivered in partnership with the Government of Canada, this multi-million dollar fund boosts social purpose organizations in Black communities.

Collaboration and Policy Influence

FFBC believes in the power of partnership, working alongside the philanthropic sector and all levels of government to address the priorities of Black communities, ensure equitable distribution of resources, and influence policy-making.
