Overview

The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) provides up to $5 million per project to support the deployment of new electric vehicle charging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure across Canada. The program funds activities such as equipment purchase, installation, and commissioning to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Maximum financial support is up to $5,000,000 per project.
  • Government covers up to 50% of total eligible project costs (up to 75% for Indigenous businesses and communities).
  • Funding caps are set per charging infrastructure type (for example, up to $5,000 per Level 2 connector; up to $100,000 per fast charger of 200 kW and above), with higher maximums for Indigenous recipients.

Activities funded

  • Installation of new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in public locations, including along highway corridors, community sites, or urban areas.
  • Expansion of existing electric vehicle charging installations to increase capacity or coverage.
  • Implementation of private EV charging infrastructure at multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces, or fleet service locations.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a legal entity validly incorporated or registered in Canada or abroad, such as a company, electric utility, industry association, Indigenous business or community group, strata or condo corporation, or a Canadian provincial, territorial, regional, or municipal government or their departments or agencies (where applicable).
  • The project must be submitted by the organization that will own the infrastructure and incur the majority of project expenditures.
  • All charging equipment within the project must be located in Canada, be new and permanently installed, and comply with applicable local codes and bylaws.
  • The chargers must be certified for use in Canada and networked to a charging network.

  • Industry associations
  • Indigenous businesses and community groups
  • Strata or condo corporations
  • Provincial, territorial, regional, or municipal governments or their departments or agencies (where applicable)

Who is not eligible

  • Individuals (not companies or organizations).
  • Any part of the federal public administration, including departments, Crown corporations, and agencies.
  • Softwood lumber companies and those vertically integrated with them.

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries and benefits for employees working directly on the project.
  • Fees for professional services such as engineering, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, training, marketing, data collection, logistics, maintenance planning, printing, and distribution.
  • Travel, meals, and accommodation costs directly related to project implementation.
  • Purchase of informatics and other equipment or infrastructure essential to the project.
  • Rental or leasing costs required for carrying out the project.
  • License fees and permits necessary for project activities.
  • Costs associated with environmental assessments.
  • GST, PST, and HST (net of any tax rebate to which the recipient is entitled).
  • Overhead expenses attributed directly to the project, up to a maximum of 15% of eligible expenditures.

Eligible geographic areas

  • Projects must be located in Canada.

Selection criteria

  • Priority given to corridor projects when more than 50% of the charging points are located in the areas deemed most priority on the public EV charging planning map.

  • Access the Transportation and Fuels Decarbonization Programs portal during an active RFP
  • Complete the online application form accurately
  • Upload supporting documents and signed attestation

  • Wait for confirmation of receipt of your application (within 5 business days)
  • Monitor communications for funding decisions (within 100 calendar days)
  • Be prepared to respond to any requests for clarification or additional information
