Overview
The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) supports the deployment of public fast electric vehicle charging infrastructure in high-priority transportation corridor areas to help address gaps in Canada’s charging network, providing up to $2,000,000 per project. Eligible owners and operators can receive up to 50% of total project costs (75% for Indigenous businesses and communities) for activities such as purchasing and installing new, permanent, networked fast chargers (including eligible co-located Level 2 connectors), as well as related project delivery costs (e.g., engineering, construction, testing, permits, and environmental assessments).
Activities funded
- Install public EV fast-charging sites along transportation corridors in high-priority areas (ranked 4 or 5 on the Electric Vehicle Charging Planning Map), within 1.6 km of an identified road.
- Deploy at least one public 100 kW fast charger co-located with additional EV chargers to bring total site output to at least 150 kW.
- Expand an existing public EV charging site by adding new fast chargers (not replacing existing chargers), where the site meets the program’s corridor/high-priority location requirements.
- Install Level 2 EV charging connectors that are co-located with fast chargers as part of an eligible public fast-charging project.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a legal entity incorporated or registered in Canada or abroad (for-profit or not-for-profit), such as a company, electric utility, industry association, or an Indigenous business/community group (Indigenous businesses must be registered in the Indigenous Business Directory).
- The proposal must be submitted by the organization that will own and operate the charging infrastructure and incur the project costs (eligible expenditures for reimbursement must be in the proponent’s name).
- The project must install at least one public EV fast charger (100 kW) co-located with additional EV chargers so the total site output is at least 150 kW.
- Chargers must be located within 1.6 km of roads shown on the Electric Vehicle Charging Planning Map and in areas ranked “4” or “5” (high priority) on that map.
- Charging infrastructure must be publicly accessible 24/7, be a permanent hard-wired new purchase (not leased), be networked, and use equipment manufactured in Canada or in a country with an in-force trade agreement with Canada.
