Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian distribution or production companies of the project for which funding is requested.
  • Producers with a Canadian distributor attached must provide written confirmation from their distributor that they are authorized to apply.

Eligible expenses

  • Marketing and promotion costs.
  • Versioning costs.
  • Audience engagement costs.
  • Test screening costs carried out during postproduction prior to delivery, when required by Telefilm and not already covered by the film’s production budget.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Marketing activities outside of Canada.
  • Costs incurred prior to confirmation of funding by Telefilm may be deemed ineligible and/or outside the Telefilm-approved marketing plan.

Selection criteria

  • Financing priority is given to films previously supported by Telefilm through the Production, Theatrical Documentary, or Talent to Watch Programs.
  • Telefilm will take into consideration the needs of the project as demonstrated by the marketing plan, the exhibitor commitment, the track record of the film, and the availability of resources.

How to apply

  • Submit the application through Dialogue.

Processing and Agreement

  • Telefilm will review the distribution agreement and may require modifications to bring the agreement in line with the Canada Feature Film Fund Distribution Terms & Contract Requirements.
  • Even if the project was financed by Telefilm at the production stage, the distribution agreement may be analyzed during the review of the marketing application, and an amendment may be required even if the project has already been released.
  • Telefilm may have specific contractual requirements if both the producer and distributor wish to apply for funding for the same project, including an obligation for the distributor to reimburse any advance granted by Telefilm to the producer under a previous marketing agreement for the same project.
