Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Eligible farm businesses that are actively farming or own actively farmed land in Ontario
  • Applicants with a valid farm business registration number (FBRN)
  • Applicants with a Religious Exemption Letter provided by the OMAFRA Appeal Tribunal
  • First Nations farmers with a Cultural Exemption Letter provided by the First Nations Agriculture & Finance Ontario
  • Applicants with 25 acres of land or more, assessed as Farm, or an income exemption from the Farm Property Class Tax Rate Program

Eligible expenses

  • Third-party delivery costs to develop, administer and deliver or provide resources of Knowledge Sharing Events (KSEs).
  • Salaries and wages associated with event planning and execution.
  • Speaker and facilitator fees, and event moderator or emcee fees.
  • Travel and accommodation for organizers or speakers excluding flight costs.
  • Venue rental, audio-visual equipment rental, internet/Wi-Fi access fees, administrative costs, event promotion, graphic design, printing and signage, photography and/or videography, printing or production of learning materials, development of presentations, fact sheets, or extension resources, translation or interpretation services, online event platform fees, virtual production costs, and Rental of OSCIA Mobile Soil Technology Suite.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs associated with attending the KSE, including registration, mileage and travel, are not eligible for cost-share.
  • Costs incurred, invoiced and/or paid for outside of the eligible dates are not eligible for cost-share.
  • Cover crops that are chemically or physically terminated in the fall or winter are not eligible.

  • Carefully read the relevant Program Guide.
  • Complete the application form or enrollment and application form.
  • Submit the application through the OSCIA Portal.

Processing and Agreement

  • If an application is approved for a cost-share allocation, written confirmation will be provided from OSCIA by email or by post if no email address is provided.
  • Approved applicants must participate in a Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) before their project can be considered complete.
  • Cost-share payments are made by electronic funds transfer (EFT) in the name of the legal farm business.
  • OSCIA will issue a tax form (AGR-1) and report the amount paid to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

  • In Ontario, OFCAF is delivered to farmers by the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA).
  • Funding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions – On-Farm Climate Action Fund.

If a cover crop is harvested or grazed, a minimum of 6 inches of growth must be left undisturbed over winter.
