Overview of the Greenhouse Technology Network (GTN) program
Receive funding and support for research and development needs in the greenhouse industry. Collaborative opportunities between greenhouse and technology businesses alongside research institutions are created to advance development and adoption of new tech
Financing terms and conditions
- Government contribution matching up to $100,000 per project.
- Maximum total project budget of $200,000.
- Minimum cash contribution from the business of 20% of project costs.
- Eligible in-kind contributions and cash are matched up to the funding limit.
Eligible projects & activities
- Implementation of new or improved greenhouse technologies, such as advanced materials, systems, or processes.
- Development, testing, or adoption of technologies aimed at reducing operating costs or environmental impact for greenhouse businesses.
- Introduction of automation or robotics to optimize production and workforce efficiency.
- Application of data management, AI, or smart systems for enhanced greenhouse management and decision-making.
- Applied research projects supporting controlled environment agriculture, value-added sustainability, or improvements in food security and safety.

Eligibility criteria of the Greenhouse Technology Network (GTN) program
- The applicant must be a greenhouse or related technology business.
- The business must have a presence in Southern Ontario.
- The business must be a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME).
- The company must be facing technology challenges that require research or innovation.
- The project must require the expertise and/or facilities provided by GTN member institutions.

- Small or medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the greenhouse sector
Eligible expenses
- Salaries and wages for project-related labour.
- Expertise and consulting fees necessary for project execution.
- Purchase of materials and supplies specific to the project.
- Other non-capital project costs.
- Administration and outreach expenses related to the project.

- Businesses located in Southern Ontario.

- Compile the full proposal, budget, and any required supporting documents.
- Submit the application through the specified online portal or via email if instructed.
- Ensure submission is done before the deadline to be considered for funding.

- Receive an acknowledgment of application receipt from GTN.
- Follow up with GTN contacts regarding the evaluation timeline and decision process.

- Greenhouse and related technology businesses may participate in multiple projects.
