The Employee Training Program provides up to $13,000 per individual client over 52 weeks to help Northwest Territories employers offset the cost of short-term employee training and up-skilling due to economic, technological, or organizational change. Eligible activities include essential skills training, technical training courses (excluding apprenticeship technical training), business training, management and leadership training, and short-term certificate training delivered by an approved third-party training institution.

Eligible geographic areas
- Northwest Territories (businesses licensed to operate in the Northwest Territories).
Processing and Agreement
- The Regional ECE Service Centre reviews and approves applications based on regional labour market priorities, needs, and available budgets.
- Career Development staff may correspond with the employer and the employee (in person, by phone, or by email) as part of processing and monitoring.
- If approved, the employer selects and contracts directly with an approved third-party trainer; the trainer invoices the employer.
- The employer requests reimbursement from the Regional ECE Service Centre on a monthly basis and submits required supporting documents.
- A 12-week follow-up with the employee is conducted after course completion to confirm employment status and identify any further career services needed.
Additional information
- The program is delivered through the GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) as part of the Skills 4 Success (S4S) initiative.
- The Employee Training Program may be used in conjunction with the Wage Subsidy Program to help offset employee training costs.
- The tools, equipment and clothing purchased through the training support become the property of the employee (client).
- Regular monitoring and follow-up are part of the program, including a 12-week follow-up survey after course completion.
