Overview
The Artist to Market Program (AMP) provides up to $10,000 to create economic opportunities for Northwest Territories artists to showcase and sell their work outside the NWT. It supports participation in out-of-territory market or event opportunities as a cohort, covering group airfare and standard accommodation, with reimbursement for booth/registration fees, extra baggage/shipping, and eligible ground transportation costs.
Activities funded
- Participating as part of a selected group of NWT artists in an out-of-territory market or event where consumers can view and purchase artwork directly from the artists.
Eligibility
- Be in good financial standing with the Government of the Northwest Territories (no delinquent debts owing).
- Be a Northwest Territories (NWT) resident (resided in the NWT for at least six months prior to applying and continue to reside in the NWT for the duration of the project).
- Be registered in the NWT Arts Program.
- Apply for an eligible out-of-territory market/event opportunity identified through an AMP call for submissions.
- Have not received funding from this program in the previous five years.

- NWT artists engaged in commercial art production (art and fine craft)
Who is not eligible
- Applicants who are not in good financial standing with the Government of Northwest Territories (e.g., delinquent debts or debts with Corporate Credit and Collections).
- Applicants who are not NWT residents (must have lived in the NWT for at least six months prior to applying and continue to reside in the NWT for the duration of the project).
- Applicants who are not registered in the NWT Arts Program.
- Applicants who have received AMP funding within the previous five years.
- Applicants seeking support for non-commercial art production (the policy scope applies to NWT residents engaged in commercial art production).
Eligible expenses
- Standard accommodation costs.
- Return airfare at the lowest available rate (or, if driving, reimbursement up to the lowest available airfare, based on GNWT private car kilometre rates plus hotel costs in transit).
- Registration and booth fees.
- Extra baggage or shipping costs related to the project.
- Ground transportation fees related to the project (e.g., taxi/public transit between home, airport, hotel, and venue).

- Northwest Territories (NWT), Canada (applicants must be residents of the NWT at the time of application).
Selection criteria
- Artistic quality (score 0–3; weighted 40%).
- Artistic originality (score 0–3; weighted 20%).
- Marketability / potential to sell well in the market (score 0–3; weighted 20%).
- Professionalism in communication and presentation (score 0–3; weighted 10%).
- Experience / readiness to participate in an out-of-territory event (score 0–3; weighted 10%).

- Submit your completed application following the call’s instructions
- Apply before starting the activity, as costs incurred before approval will not be considered

Await decision and agreement
- Wait for written notification within ten (10) business days after review
- If successful, review the pre-approved amount and contribution agreement
Additional information
- Successful applicants must complete their funded activities within the same fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) in which they receive funding.
- The program’s financial resources are conditional on approval of funds by the Legislative Assembly and the availability of an unencumbered balance for the fiscal year.
- Applicants can appeal a funding decision in writing within 30 days of receiving notification.
- The Minister may make a special exception to program rules, which must be substantiated in writing and recorded by the Department.
