Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • B.C.-based for-profit video game companies
  • Mid-level and experienced game studios
  • New startups with an owner from a qualifying game studio

Who is not eligible

  • Companies extra-provincially registered in B.C.
  • Companies whose main business is not video game development
  • Businesses focused mainly on websites, mobile apps, immersive projects, or software that are not clearly games
  • Projects or work already directly supported by another CMF or Creative BC program

Eligible expenses

  • Promotion and marketing
  • Personnel and labour
  • Technology, content, and design
  • Online content/app development and rights clearance
  • Travel, legal, accounting, consulting, and testing costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs already directly funded by another CMF or Creative BC program
  • Capital projects such as land or building purchase, renovation, or improvement
  • Working capital replenishment, loan or debt repayment, operating deficits, capital losses, and buybacks
  • Content not fully owned, controlled, or optioned for at least 12 months
  • Content categories listed as ineligible under CMF interactive digital media core guidelines

Processing and Agreement

  • Creative BC first reviews eligibility and completeness
  • Missing documents may be requested, with up to five days to respond
  • Applications are evaluated by Creative BC, CMF staff, and an external advisory panel
  • Decisions are sent by email and are final
  • Successful applicants sign separate funding agreements with Creative BC and CMF

Additional information

  • Applicants can submit only one application per company in each annual intake.
  • Previous 2024 round recipients are not eligible for the 2025/26 intake.
  • Successful recipients must publicly acknowledge Creative BC and CMF support when other funders are named.
  • There is no appeal process; funding decisions are final.
