Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Professional artists in CALQ-supported disciplines, including writers, storytellers, architects, and craftspersons.
  • Independent curators recognized in visual arts, arts and crafts, architectural research, digital arts, and film and video art.
  • Individuals who carry out on their own an activity covered by the program.

Who is not eligible

  • Applicants who have resided outside Québec for two or more years, unless they have maintained Québec resident status.
  • Curators employed full time as curators in an arts organization.

Eligible expenses

  • Travel expenses.
  • Accommodation and per diem.
  • Travel-related costs such as visas, vaccinations, and insurance.
  • Translation fees for work excerpts.
  • Shipping costs for equipment required for the project.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Remuneration and professional fees; production, presentation, and administration expenses.
  • Transportation and crating fees for works; registration or presentation expenses for a promotional presentation or conference.
  • Travel and living expenses already covered by aid from public or private organizations or other sources of financing.
  • Projects to disseminate works, projects with no overnight stay, and participation in training and professional development workshops.
  • Artist residency projects unless they are part of a selection process and living and production expenses are fully funded by the host organization; projects for which departures are from abroad.

Selection criteria

  • Quality of artistic work (40%).
  • Interest and relevance of the project (60%).
  • Project management and feasibility, including the travel plan and budget.
  • Host organization or partner contribution, if applicable.
  • A minimum rating of “Satisfactory” is required for the administrative assessment.

How to apply

  • Register for Mon Dossier CALQ and complete the grant application online.
  • If this transmission mode is not available or cannot be used, follow the instructions on the Application form – detail project to send the file by WeTransfer.
  • Sign the completed form.
  • Place all files in a compressed, password-protected 7-Zip file.
  • Send the file via WeTransfer to formulairesdacar@calq.gouv.qc.ca.
  • Send the password to open the file through a separate communication.

Processing and Agreement

  • The decision is communicated approximately eight weeks after submission.
  • If you register for Mon Dossier CALQ, you will receive an email inviting you to check your online file for the decision; otherwise, the CALQ communicates its decision in writing.
  • If your application is accepted, the confirmation letter includes a document outlining the terms and conditions for the use of the grant.
  • Grant recipients must produce a Grant Use Report once the project is complete, and decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
  • After receiving the results, you may request the general ratings for your project for each evaluation criterion.

Additional information

  • You can submit up to five separate applications and receive a maximum of five grants per CALQ fiscal year, from April 1 to March 31; all applications submitted, including those deemed ineligible, count toward that maximum.
  • You may not have more than three projects being considered, supported or under way at the same time.
  • The CALQ will not accept applications by mail.
  • Letters of recommendation are not submitted to the evaluation committee.
